Identify - Is this a Schon R12 or SL7 or ? - Video and Pics

I got this cue cheap and believe it to be an R12 because of the sharp inlays but I could be wrong. Looking to have it refinished if its not too expensive, forearm needs restaining to match better where it was repaired along with a new butt cap. Surprisingly its straight and his solid. It doesn't look like any original R series cue I've seen but check with Deanoc as he seems to know more about Schon Cues than most folks.
He's a close pal of Schon's co-founder, Bob Runde, and Schon's current owner, Evan Clarke, so Dean should be able to help you find out.

The inlay pattern and butt appear to be R12, what throws me off is the ring work because I have seen silver rings on R12s and dash rings but never this ring work on all the images I have seen for the R12 as shown below. Also the veneers around the diamond inlays in the butt usually are not two colors and just one.

It's a custom R-12--- circa late 80's.. Looks like it had a joint issue and a sleeve issue and both were repaired... too bad..
 
I agree. Not sur why it would not have been stained to match. Haha. Would be cool to see it after its done right with a new buttcap. The ringwork I haven't seen before on the R12 or the veneer being two colors in the butt.
 
Not talking about the shoddy repairs. Im talking about THOSE rings, and the 2 color squares. Not like ANY R12 or S13 or SL7

R12s were dashed rings. S13/SL7 were silver rings. (Butt Sleeve)

And its a later cue due to points CNC and Silver shaft rings...

So Im still going with a One off cue special ordered.
 
I have an r12 and it looks almost exactly like this one. Enough so that I'm confident in saying that it is an r12. Probably built in the early 90s. Mine has silver rings and was bought new in 91-92.

I was thinking its Runde because it appears to be old and I know some we cnc. It has sharp inlays too.
 
Oh Im sure Its Runde era...89-91. To my knowledge, the later "R12s" did have silver rings vs the stitch rings in the butt. But this one defies my known logic. Maybe this is a limited run of the "SP" R12 series with check rings...

I still think its an odd duck, but Ill shuddup. :)

It was for sure built in the late 80's, prob 89' and was not that rare to do silver in the ringwork.. The person who repaired the sleeve took the whole Ebony section off behind the bottom ring and moved the cap closer... That Ebony section could still be added and the cue repaired to be correct but it would take a bit more work and might not be worth it in the long run...

I wonder how much it would cost to fix it, I am guessing $200-$250 but I guess it depends who does it.

The complete refinish alone would cost that so tack on maybe another $200 and that might do it... They'll have to bore out the sleeve, place in a new maple dowel, "sleeve" over an ebony ring, turn it down, install new cap hardware then do the refinish/re-wrap... I'd send it to Scott at Proficient Billiards... I think you'll be very pleased... then when done sent it to Schon to get the logo engraved...

Yeah it will take a bit to bring it back. More then I want to spend. Might pass it on to someone who will love it like I did an ex I had. :p
