Identify Palmer Cue and Value

There is a Palmer guy on here that collects them.. you should search Palmer on here and I'm sure he will come up.

Vinnie,

Palmer made a special run of this design in the 1980's, meant to be sold in the shop and by their dealers. There is no model number. I've seen these go from $400 to $500 typically. Does it have the foil "Original by Palmer" or the adhesive sticker?

Palmer Custom Cue

Chris,

Thank you for this bit of information. I have always wondered about the facts surrounding this model Palmer. I see quite a number of them here and there, some with an embossed foil and some with the "Palmer Custom Cue" sticker under the window.

This cue was recently listed on eBay under item #181395712653. Cue had a bidder but apparently is once again available for sale. It does have the sticker "Palmer Custom Cue" in the window.

Value

Yes it looks like a removable sticker. Someone told me it was to be customizable. I'm looking to sell fast.

Did your buyer back out of the sale? I thought you sold this on eBay in an auction (181395712653) that closed on May 2nd for $499.00.

Yup. He's telling me it's not authentic. I have a pro in my hometown that has authenticated it. I still want to let it go. Don't know how to list it.

It's authentic - it was at the end of the company's run probably late 1980's or early 1990's. Comapmny closed in 1994.

Looks like the cue has a damaged point (the prong's tip is missing) - that will hurt the value a lot.

A New Record

You did very well on this eBay auction.

In fact I have never seen one of these Palmer Custom Cues trade for such an amount ($610.) The question is "why"?

As much as I would like to see the appreciation for Palmers increase as well as an uptick in the market for them, I think this sale is an aberration.

$610 for a Palmer Custom Cue that Chris observed had a damaged point. For comparison, 3 months ago an AZ seller sold a drop dead perfect 2nd Catalog Model D for $650 (Titlist with ebony prongs). Last month I was offered two perfect 1st Catalog Model 1's for $600 each. Last fall a dealer in the Mid-Atlantic States was selling a one-owner 1st Catalog Model 11 for $1,000. in excellent condition with two shafts and a clean original wrap.

This is part of the reason why I love Palmers. They can still be had for very reasonable money.

Valuation

When you offer a value you should never do so unless you are a buyer at that price. If that is what it is worth to you it should implicitly be worth that to you.
Pie in the sky has little value. And it varies greatly from day to day and cloud to cloud.
See buyers? Ask them. Tate speculates as a collector and is dead on. Condition is not collectable. That kills value. That is your market here. You have a considered newer Palmer in a second condition at 85% or better?
It can be sold as a playing Cue. Usually that market is the crappiest.
Nick :)
