Identifying a pool cue joint

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a pool cue and an OB shaft to that afterwards and I'd like to know if someone can identify this joint type http://i.imgur.com/EVx6Xbn.jpg

Not sure if this is the right place to ask so sorry if I got it wrong, the butt is handmade in Thailand and the joint type doesn't look familiar to me.

Thanks in advance

I believe it is 5/16 x 14! It may also be 5/16 x 18. Get a ruler and count how many threads per inch. On joint pins the 5/16 number is the diameter of the pin and the 14 or 18 number is threads per inch.

Thanks a lot guys! I got a few new pictures since the first one was rather bad quality if it helps at all, the 5 is 0.984252 inches so it's quite close to 1 inch

If my calculations are right it is 14 threads per inch.
You need to figure out the diameter of the pin.

The ruler seems to be graduated in 1/10-inch segments, and I count 4 threads in approximately .35 inches, so that scales out to 11.5 tpi, as far as I can tell. Might be metric instead. Or just a difficult photo to guess from. Or I need new glasses. Anything is possible.

Thanks a lot for help guys, I'll try to find an inch ruler and figure out the diameter, if I can't I'll post some better pictures.

The diameter is ~0.315 inches, I am curious if it is normal for joint to have such a 'hole' as seen in the last picture posted or does it require some kind of a special joint type from the shaft?

I'm looking to buy an OB Classic Pro 30" and trying to figure out the threads in this butt, just to see if I should buy the butt or just a cue with an OB shaft.

Thanks in advance!

If you have friends who play and have their own cues, take it to your local pool hall ask to try to fit shafts from other cues on it. In general, if a Meucci or Huebler screws onto it, it is a 5/16 X 18 (I wouldn't try this if it were my Huebler as it would be easy to cross thread the nylon insert). if it screws onto a Joss or Schon, it is likely a 5/16 X 14. McDermott is 3/8 X 10. SW it is a 3/8 X 11, Bender is a 3/8 X 14.
