if Pool is a sport, then define "sport'

Not on planet Earth.

The analogy is exactly correct. Because smaller weightlifters are stronger than heavier weightlifters and 80 - 86 proof liquor is stronger than beer.

Yeah...um...3 six packs of beer delivers more or less alcohol than one shot?

You keep saying the Olympic committee used body weight as a tie breaker. SO I ask, what would have happened if the heavier guy lifted MORE, not the same. In other words, 300lb guy lifts 400 lbs, 290 lb guy lifts 399 lbs. Who wins? I thought they had weight classes? Try reviewing Spiders last post...if that doesn't make sense to you, this conversation might have run out of value.

Let me ask you a question: would you rather fight for your life with a 100lb guy who has a high strength to body weight ratio, or a 300 lb guy who can lift MUCH more in every type of *strength* test, but not more lb. for lb. Assume equal fighting skills.

Who is drunker, a guy with a .10 BAC level off of beer, or the guy with a .10 BAC off of 'more efficient' booze? (Hint: they are the same)

Try explaining that to the cops if you got pulled over and breath tested and blew a .10: "I'm not drunk, I was only drinking beer, not hard alcohol which is more powerful pound for pound!"

Liquor is a stronger drink per ml just like smaller weightlifters are stronger per pound than larger weightlifters.

If I'm drinking a beer and the bartender asks if I want something stronger I know exactly what he means. Maybe you'll insist that you don't. If I was drinking liquor and the bartender asked me that question I wouldn't assume that he's referring to beer.

Olympic weightlifting is segmented into weight classes and everyone in the same class is treated as if they are the exact same weight unless they lift exactly the same weight. Then the win is awarded to the stronger weightlifter, i.e., the one who is lighter and lifted the same weight.

As to your question about who I would rather fight- I don't have a preference either way.

You're confusing capacity with strength.

Ummmm, I'll rather fight the 100 pound guy that benches 200 then the 350pound guy than benches 400 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The amount of power coming from a guy who benches 400 is gonna do a lot more damage than a guy that can bench 200.... And I know, cause I only bench 200 !!

You wanna get hit by Derek Jeter of the Yankees or Brian Urlacher of the Bears?? Your choice..... but if it were me, I'm runnning and fast from Urlacher even though the fcker would still catch me !!

Don't get hit.....Don't be scared. Big guys are slow anyways.

That may be true for most, but have you seen Urlacher chase down QB's and Running Backs at will !! He might have lost a step over the years, but he ain't slow !! lol

In a real fight you can't lunge at a guy unless your a grizzly bear. Trust me I've been beat up quite a bit.

Trust me, Urlacher will lunge at you at full force. He is a menace. And his demeanor and personality is very "Grizzly" and happens to play for the Chicago Bears, thus he might actually qualify as a Grizzly Bear !!!

I don't run from many folks, but he would be one of them !!

Can't underestimate the bear....I'll save my berries.

It seems that too many people who participate in competitive, physical, recreational activities become peeved at the idea of their
game being excluded as a sport.

The most important aspect to my definition of a sport is quite simple,

any game requiring the simultaneous attempt of your opponent(s) to prevent your progress...obviously there would be other requirements as that definition alone would qualify Video Games and other such competitions...but that's the gist...

Football, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Boxing, Wrestling etc...would constitute classic examples.

These types of games introduce a level of dynamics and psychology that are simply not present elsewhere.

I believe it is very difficult to understand these concepts unless you have played such games at a relatively high level and/or have
studied sporting competitions of many types over many years.

It is also my belief that these games are the most difficult of all requiring overall skill levels which dwarf those skills required to compete in other games, and generally speaking, the participants of which are derived from the deepest talent pools available.

Billiards obviously would not qualify under my definition,

nor would other games which are most often considered sports
such as Track and Field events, Swiw races, Gymnastics, and many more which in my view fall under the category of "competitions" requiring a certain level of athleticism

I welcome all input (except from bowlers)

Well, the Swiss standard used by the Olympics qualifies Billiards as sport.

DING DING DING

I knew you'd get there eventually. :D

That smaller weightlifters are stronger than larger weightlifters? Anyone who knows anything about weightlifting knows that.
