Back in the day if someone welched on a bet or stiffed someone or stole a cue they would get a whoopin'.

In today's politically correct world with lawsuits and all that you can't do that anymore.

So now we have welchers and stiffers and thiefs welching, stiffing and thieving away fearless of punishment because everyone else is getting away with it with just a "bad reputation" for their punishment.

So what DO we do to make these people pay for their crimes to cause some sort of a deterrent?

The threat of imminent arrest has made more than a few people come around. :)
 
Be wiser than we used to be? Actually you have a good question there but it makes me sad :( and wish I had the real answer

Back in the day most deals were made face to face. Now with the internet and all the fraud involved... It makes it really tuff to persue someone. It's hard to even get the law envolved. Only a few years ago ( before the internet ) I would have never even considered sending someone I don't know, a couple of grand for a purchase across the country or ocean, sight unseen and hope they would send it to me. It's a tough question to answer, especially since law enforcement is reluctent to act on these situations. I think we just have to hope we are dealing with an honest person. It's a gamble everyday!:(
 
Spread the WORD... Welcher

When someone doesn't pay... spread the word... let everyone know that to bet with this guy, you take the chance of him not paying....

Get the bad apple out of the pool hall... bar, ban or just let him be known as a bad apple...

So often the criminals are more protected than we are!!

My Mystick jump cue was stolen from my monthly tournament back in July.

A friend thought he saw it get pawned at a local pawn shop. I never even filed a police report, thinking it was gone. I went over to the pawn shop to see if it was mine. They said they cold not even show it to me. I had to file a police report. Get a case number and have an officer go there to look at it. Oh and I could not be there!!! I filed a PR 2 weeks ago and still have not been contacted by the police, and they won't return my phone calls!!

If you know who did the stealing.........much easier to just break a thumb or two. If they are really tough..........start with their mom or sister.

When I was a teenager, I had a guy air barrell me for $200. I had a buddy that was an ex-con in his 40's that looked like a local news man. He collected for me using the newsman's name. To this day the guy thinks he got squeezed by Ron Hall the news anchor!!! LMAO.

No easy answers to this one!

We work together as a group. Now that "old fashioned" solutions are not acceptable, we need to work together as a community. If there is a deadbeat in my neighborhood, I want to be a part of the solution...if we act as a community, there will be a lot of surprised deadbeats who learn just how far we can reach.

Well, this may be very naive, but I like to think that people in general are still good and honest. Granted, there's going to be the crook every now and then but overall people can be trusted. I think with access to news and information like we have today it seems as if everyone is out to rob you but in reality I don't think it's as bad as we like to make it out to be. I'd be willing to bet that for every bad deal that goes down there are a thousand good ones.

Yeah, but it's always been my understanding that gambling is illegal in most states. What can you do, call the cops and tell them that you were involved in an illegal activity and got ripped off?

I wasn't referring to a gambling debt. There are other means to collect debts like that.

With all due respect Mullyman I believe your previous avatar, whom I assume to be your wife, can give Chad Johnson the 6 out and the breaks. The cincy bengals never looked so good to me.

If you get stiffed it is your own fault. I don't know how many times someoone has to say it. POST!! POST!!
 
Now I come from a gambling family and was practically raised at "the track", and not to sound too polyanna-ish, but this is one of the reasons gambling is illegal in most places.
My family is in Casino ownership and management.

Once you go behind the law and play there, your only recourse remains on that 'dark' side. Not good.
