If you could design and build a better pool cue case what would you want

I have bought and sold about 5 pool cue cases over the years, and wish someone would build a truly custom pool cue case to a customers specification. Allowing the customer could combine the features from any case to build the case they wanted.

If this case builder existed what feature would you want in your custom case?

Hey Corvette,

I just got a Meizu MP4 player - it's small enough to mount on a case. Could you imagine - let's just fire up Grady or Billy's DVD here and see how they would play that shot.....

Or have it rotating a slide show of different tooling designs.....

Pimp my case!

lcd tv's on the sides of the case. Yeah, now that would be balla!
With a diamond encrusted grille on the top, neon lights on the bottom, and little tiny disco balls in the pockets so you can find your crap.

The case would be made out of leopard skin. And peacock feathers.

With "Pimps up. Hoes down" embossed down the side in zebra skin.

Thats how I roll.

John Barton

I was going to tell you that John Barton will do whatever you want, but apparently he beat me to the punch! LOL

I think my next case will be a John Barton.

I've always had a dream of having one made out of a baby panda bear. You could open his mouth to put the cues in and his legs would be accessory compartments. His left eye would be a scuffer and his right eye would be a shaper

Nice.

It would go well with my Mr. Burns special.

A 2x4 made out of puppy dogs.

3 points:
  1. With respect to the price of a case, there is a distinct line between utility and decoration that is typically quite low. That is, when the item(s) to be "protected" are generally under $1,000 many people cannot justify spending an additional $500 for a case. Anytime you buy something "custom made" you are paying a premium, and will approach the line much faster.
  2. What do you mean by "truly custom"? If you just want longer, shorter, more or less holes, different materials, adornment, etc., virtually every custom case maker out there will do that.
  3. And as for "features", what do you need/want other than:
    holes for cues / protection
    lid
    pocket(s) for stuff
    strap/handle
    feet?

There are some funny responses here. lol In all seriousness, I would want an It's George 2x4 enlarged to truly handle 2 butts/4 shafts without being so tight. Wouldn't mind a seperate pocket for chalk. Then keep the cleaning cloth in another pocket. Currently I keep the chalk in a ziplock bag so the pockets don't turn blue.

Love It's George cases for the money.

I want a case that has all the gadgets like Rodney Dangerfield had in his golf bag in the movie Caddyshack. Beer tap, TV, radio, phone LOL :p

Really though, I think the guys that do customs, Justis, Murnak, Whitten, John Barton (I know I have missed some), will build you what you want with in reason.

Personally, I like the Murnak Vintage line. Don't own one yet, but still like them :D

i had an idea for pocket to hold a small pistol, make it hideable in plain site but easy to access.......i talked to a couple of custom case makers and they said it looked doable. So i would want that, plus more pockets or some type of large pocket with dividers.....i hate having to unzip a pocket and then play grab bag until i find what im looking for.

I bought my dad a 22 revolver that holds 5 rounds. I could put that in my pocket in my pants/shorts, or even the pocket of my cue case. It is only about 3" long. It is a really cool little revolver. I got it at Academy for like $175. His is the LR version.

Make a case with a shaft cleaner built in, sorta like those Braun razors, where you plug it in and it self-cleans. :D

My idea of the perfect case would be...remember, this is MY idea...the multi-configurable case.

Most of the leather cases out there start off with an outer shell (PVC) that is then covered in a customer's choice of leather (tooled or non-tooled). My idea would be to then make inner inserts with different storage configurations. Basically, as the owner's needs changed, the interior inserts could change as well.....let's say that you need a 3x6 config for a tournament, but the case is currently set up for say, a 2x3. You would be able to simply pull out the 2x3 insert, and replace it with the 3x6 insert that you purchased separately.....now you want to go light...replace with a 1x2 insert.

One case with multiple configuration options would be the ideal cue case, IMHO. I may have to noodle with this idea. :)

yeah my dad has one of these too.......those pistols are too small for me though, a childhood accident messed up my inde finger, it wont bend and i cant hold one of those little derringers. A beretta .22 is as small as i can go

I have said this before on other boards but I would love to find a modern looking design that's minimalistic using carbon fiber, leather and aluminum. Like modern sports car interiors (like in my Audi S4). I'm not into the tooled leather saddle bag look.

Regarding features, I would like to be able to reach my shafts and butts without tipping the thing over like i have to with my Whitten (yes I know all about the rubber stoppers). I would like the shafts and butts to fit snug in the tubes so they don't rattle around and of course I'd need some room for storage. All of that was worked out in my old In-Stroke case but I didn't like the look of it, my Whitten is much more attractive but less functional.

I used to think I'd want a golf stand type of mechanizm but have given up on that.

That's all I need.

Seems to me that tube cases are a pain, yeah I have one for which my wife paid far too much money.

A suitcase type of deal with a shoulder strap on the vertical axis makes sense to me. Every place you go there is a pool table or some sort of table to lay your case on to open it up.

Tray one would have the cues. Below that would be a second tray for other stuff with compartments that could be configured as needed. I like the idea that the top tray could hold two - four cues depending on where you are going. I often have an extra cue that has been fixed or that I might want to sell. Then too, there might be one to buy. It would probably need a special side bag for a cue ball as I often take my own with me.

When I got done and closed the case there would be two portable legs like a tripod that would let me stand it up out of the way. Seems like everyplace I go all the cases and stuff get stuck in a corner and you have to dig yours out. If it had tripod legs built in to the side I could put it where I needed to for watching and such.

Some sort of cue rests are needed so I could stand my two cues straight up by the case while the other guy is shooting.

The case also needs some sort of locking device like on a laptop computer. It needs enough pull out cable on a spring return to allow me to lock it to something so I don't have to check every five minutes to see if someone stole it.

Yeah, I'd pay a couple hundred for a nice cowhide case that would take a beating to carry around my good sticks that I don't want to lose. Of course I don't want it to be as big as a house either. So there is a challege for you.

Mine will be a soft sided case that will house hard case tubes. The tubes will be easily removeable... probably held in by velcro or elastic straps. The original set up will be to have 2 butt and 3 shaft tubes laying flat. I'll have extra tubes so I can reconfigure as needed.

No outside pockets. The stuff I carry will be in zippered plastic bags which will lay inside on top of the shaft tubes. My glasses will fit at the top of the cue entry area... on top of the cue butts and shafts... on the right end if the case is laying down.

There will be D rings on the back side for a strap. There will be handles in the middle of the front and back that come together, and there will be a handle on the top. The case will zip on 3 sides and the zipper will come around the back side a couple inches on both the top and bottom.

The case will be made out of fake leather so it won't be ruined if I lay it on a table and it happens to be in a puddle of water/beer/whiskey. It will be black and the center will be colored like bem to match my cue.

It will measure about 35" long, 8in wide (front to back) and the gussett will be about 3" deep.

I'm looking for a simple, elegant look. Very smooth and classy. Nothing flashy. A soft sided Whitten without pockets and with a zipper around 3 sides.

I'm close to having JB make it for me. It needs more visualizing first so I don't miss something. Maybe JB will have a suggestion based on this post.

My idea of a perfect Cue Case would be one made of Leather like Jack Justis, or Jim Murnak use. As this vegetable tanned leather, or tooling leather last a long time, and looks better with age.

2 x 4 configuration with tubes to add protection to cue butts, and shafts.

Spring bottom like Dan Whitten uses, so my Butts, or Shaft bounce up.

Jump Butt Compartment that is easy to get my JB in and out of.

Deep wide pockets that are easily accessed to put stuff in, or get stuff out of.

Top Handle, Side Handle, and Carry Strap that can be tucked away like Jack Justis does with his cases.

Zipper that do not wear out, and will take abuse. Two of my old cases made it to the dumpster because of CHEAP Zippers.

Butt or Shaft Capacity of 32.0?, and spacersin the Tubes to raise and lower case bottom.

Cross between a Murnak, Justis, Instroke, Whitten, Nittany Leather, and John Barton utilizing the best features of each.

Am I a dreaming...
