If you could have a plain jane player from any maker...?

Bluegrass...period!

A buddy of mine had one 15-20 years ago before I knew very much about cues but that's ok cause he didn't either.:D

He had a Bluegrass Titlist that he sold for almost nothing compared to what it would have sold for today. It hit incredibly solid but seemed to weigh at least 21 oz. It was way too heavy for me but was a cool cue nonetheless.

Joss model 1 from the 80's or a j-1.

Having said that, I have a plain jane kinda cue on order from Rat Cues currently.

Sideways JW Josswest birdseye maple, linen wrap. Steel joint, stitch rings. Perfect blend of elements. Hits the sweet spot of aesthetic fullness -- not to mention how it plays. Classic. Hard to imagine anything better in this style of cue.

If you could have a plain jane player from any maker, who would it be? No inlays, fancy rings, veneers, or other decorations, just the best basic player they can make. You are not allowed to sell or trade it, you have to keep it and play with it.

As long as it comes with an OB shaft, eh, don't matter since I can never sell it anyways.

I have a Bert Schrager that I got from him new ($80.00 w/ivory ferrule) in the late 70's that plays pretty good. :D
