If You Could Take Lessons...

I actually did get a lesson not to long ago. Well not actually, it was either a dream or my last thought while still awake. Here is what happened.
I picked Bobby Chamberlain. He is reasonable close to me, about a day's car ride, and I know he can play. I arrive a day early so I can get my proper rest, very important to me to get proper rest. Next day we meet up and I hand over my $50. Bobby says lets just play for a while i need to see where you're at. We play straight pool for a couple hours, he is keeping his runs to low twentys, not wanting to take away from my time. I play my best, running maybe a couple 30 somethings and topping out with a decent run about 45.
MY last shot was a simple tap in to the corner pocket, about 18 inches total length, A 100% shot all day long. I hit it squarely into the rail.
Bobby looks at me and says "don't do that." the lesson is over and I walk out thinking That $50 was well spent.
If I ever meet ya, Mr C. lunch is on me

Lessons

Ralf Souquet would also be my first choice. I really like his style of play. I've also known Max for a few years now and would highly recommend getting lessons from him if you get a chance. He's a great guy and just top notch fundamentals.

I've also gotten lessons from Billy Palmer. Another great player with tremendous experience and was really able to explain things in layman's terms. Could not have been happier with him.

For banks I'd choose John Brumback..

Otherwise, Thorsten or Ralf would be my choice. I feel they have solid fundamentals and a great demeanor at the table.

If I could choose anybody it would be Darren Appleton. He has such a fresh personality and you can almost see the cogs in his head whirl when he talks about pool.

He also has a very good reputation amongst other UK players for coaching, and of course he's been there and done it for money in all parts of the world, and won some of the toughest tournaments you can win.

But I have to give avery honourable mention to my coach at this present time, Nigel Webb. He is an amazing coach and has helped my mental game so much to such a point I don't even recognize what I was before coaching. The physical work has mainly come from me, but he is helping me out slowly with that too and he has given me the fullest confidence that I can go far in the amateur game in the UK.

That's one thing that a coach has to give you - full 100% belief. And you have to trust that they really do believe in you. Once that trust is developed 100% you cannot go wrong. Every time I get ready to play I am like a kid in a sweet shop, such is the effect he's had on my game.

Sorry for the long post :-)

I missed this thread the first time around and I'm qualified to make some suggestions about which pros I would take lessons from since I have taken LOTS of lesson from pro players over the years.

However, I won't make suggestions for particular individuals. What I will do is to suggest how you can make up your mind about which pros you want to take lessons from.

The first thing to ask yourself is what do you hope to get out of this lesson.

The next thing is to ask yourself who YOU would like to take a pool lesson from.

The third thing is to determine if you can get what you want from that particular pro. You can ask the pro and you can ask for a consensus of opinion here on AZB Main Forum and also ASK for PM's because that is where you will get the more candid replies.

Each pro has their own set of gifts and skill sets to offer. YOu didn't ask about instructors so I won't make recommendations there either.

Good luck Baxter. You have a lot of choice to narrow down.
