I think that if your serious about the game a glove will enhance your game reguarless of your present abilities. You'll get better as time and practice dictates. So Glove Up and Go For It.

Im anti glove. dont like shooting with one and nor do I feel comfortable with one.

If you show up with a glove, you should at least be able to sing 3 Michael Jackson tunes!

Gloves are for baseball and golf, not pool.

If you show up wearing a glove then you have something wrong with you...lol.

I know someone who used to wear a glove on each hand incase he had to shoot left handed...lol.

Gloves ...

We KNOW you get 'clammy' when the pressure is on you.
or
You have a bad diet.
or
You want to have SAFE Pool.
or
Earl Strickland is your hero.
or
You are coming out.

I've been pondering getting a pool glove, mainly because my hands perspire more than I like, and hence, my cues get gunked up with grime quicker than I'd like. I have to constantly clean them. It's a chore!

OK, I don't understand... I've tried a glove and it really helps with the cue sliding more smoothly then just my bare hand. Of course after being laughed at by everyone, the glove is at the bottom of my case. Can someone tell me why a glove is not accepted? It's a functional thing, if your cue glides more smoothly then why not use one?

Good question... I really don't think Michael Jackson helped the situation out.... Not sure why it is not accepted more... tried to search my own brain, but did not come up with any good arguments... only the fact that I don't use one... so I get down on anyone else being different. I need to work on that, I guess....

I am sure I would benefit from using one....

If the glove lets your cue stroke smoothly then use it. Who cares about what other people think. When other kids see me with a glove on they laugh and stuff, but what happens when i beat them? They have nothing to say. I like to feel the cue in my hands when i shoot, but sometimes a glove cant be avoided for me. My hands are always sweaty so even if i talc up i'll have to re-apply a lot which is annoying. Of course slip stic is really a god send. No need for a glove with slip stic on yur cue shaft. Unfortunetly for me im out and its wore off my cue so until i get a new bottle im going to have to glove it.

If you show up with a glove, you should have sweaty hands.

That's all there is to it.

If your hands have mositure on them, the shaft will not glide through your fingers. You will not play well. And using a glove will give you more consistent results than using hand powder. Also no mess on the table.

So some people need a glove for this reason. It does not matter if they are a beginner, banger, or pro player. They will play better with a glove period.

Some other players will make fun of those who wear gloves. Just ignore it is what I say. See who laughs last when the player with the glove wins or plays just as well as those who do not have sweaty hands...

I think it's more acceptable for a female player to wear one than a male player.

i used to wear a glove when I first started playing. I felt that it helped out a lot cuz I had a graphite cue... now it feels very uncomfortable and nothing feels better than the hit of a 314 shaft anyways. My opinion, if you need it than use it, but try to learn to play without it. There will be times where you hang out with a few friends and not have your glove with you.

This thread seems to be in part intended as a dig at me, but I don't mind.

I started playing with a glove in the early 90's and got stirred a lot. Since then, a lot of my former pool associates tried it out and became converts.

When you've played a lot tournies in humid un-airconditioned bars or other unsuitable venues, then a smooth sliding bridge is a clear advantage for anyone who has compared the two.

Anyway, a glove is hardly convenient, and not typically fashionable but it allows consistancy of feel for speed control, and if you're after consistancy in your game, it provides that advantage.
