if you want to develop a straight stroke DONT use an ld shaft

...a low squirt shaft will miss by more than a regular shaft for the same cueing error.

Tennesseejoe:
Doesn't that depend entirely on the pivot point in relation to the shooters bridge placement?
It's true when the pivot point is behind the bridge, so all bridges up to 12" or so.

What exactly is the Pivot Point? That's a new one on me.

There's a point on every shaft where you can pivot to apply sidespin and the new cue angle is just right to adjust for squirt (so long as there's no "swerve"). It's a different point for each shaft - for normal solid maple shafts with 12-14mm tips, it's somewhere between 6-12" from the tip; for "low deflection" shafts it's farther from the tip (up to 16" or more).

If your bridge is at your shaft's pivot point you can (for some shots) "pivot" at your bridge to apply sidespin and that will automatically compensate your aim for squirt ("CB deflection").

Lots more info about this is here at Dr. Dave's great website.
