I'm moving to Monterey, CA. How's the pool?

Places to Play in Bay Area

Garlic City Billiards in Gilroy has tight tables and a Verhoven billiard table. Action Bob just sold the place, next Friday is his last day. We are all wondering if the new owner is going to make it friendly to pool players. We sure hope so?
Stansberry's sold his place but the deal did not go thru. Not sure how long he will be around in Monerey?
Fast Eddy's is your best bet in Capitola/Santa Cruz for closest action. California Billiards is where you are going to go if you play pool. One of the best rooms in US. Great tables, golf game, billiards and tournaments.
Edgies in Milpitas has best Philipino action every Friday and 6 great Billiard tables. Family in San Francisco has action.
easy e, that's my sons handle too. Dave I will say hi to Bob for you, Barney

Yes we do

Does anyone play around there? I am looking to get back into playing a little bit.

As other people have mentioned, Fast Eddy's is just up the highway in Capitola and except for California Billiards in Mt. View(about 40 miles more from me) we have the best pool atmoshphere. Go to fasteddysbilliards.com for info.
As the owner I welcome any new players and old. To be honest business has fallen off in rough economic times. We have a montly member ship for $80.00 although living in Monterey makes that probably not feasible. However we do have Monday tournament that used to be reserved for usppa but we all know what happened to them we now we have world ppa(go to worldppa.org to check them outa) basically the same handicapped tournament. Been getting 14-20 players lately at $11 with $1 going to an added tournament when it reaches $100 in kitty and sometimes I donate extra if enough people show up. People are coming from Monterey, Gilroy, San Jose and Hollister.
Fortuinately we have a few players left over from the large exodus to points beyond the the poker craze. Couple of good 1p players and a few 9 ball.
Hope to see you soon and be sure to introduce yourself to myself(Dick or wife Sally or son Todd)
We have been here 31 years now.

Sounds good, and thanks for the invitation! I will actually be living in Salinas, so about 32 miles from Capitola. I will make it a goal to head up there at least once. What night do you recommend? I will be looking to play in a tournament, but probably not looking for action...I haven't played pool in quite some time!

Thanks a lot

There's also a nice room in Santa Cruz called Surf City Billiards:

http://www.surfcitybilliards.com/

Not much in the way of action when I was there but the GC4's are first rate and the food is decent.

In Capitola there is Fast Eddie's. It's a little dumpier than Surf City but you will probably find more action there.

Both are up the coast about 1/2 an hour or so.

And of course, about 90 minutes away or so is the California Billiard Club in Mountain View. A little far to go just to knock balls around but worth the drive for a tournament or if you are planning to stay the whole day/evening.

At least if your going to dump(dumpier) on my room at least spell it right so people googling can get to it right. It is Fast Eddys for internet purposes not Fast Eddie like in the Hustler.
And we are a littler dumpier than Surf City cause they are brand new with all new stuff. They are yuppy, we are a pool room.
Plus we just got voted Best Place to Play pool in the county. LOL

I wonder

I do not remember the name of the place but the owner of one of the pool rooms owns one of Jerry McWorter's first pointed cues. The points are not the same length and Jerry has always wanted it back, but this guy plays so well with it, that he will not sell it back to him. He is a good player so if you find him, I am sure you can get into some good games.

I wonder if you are talking about Charlie O'brien? He is in the process of selling a McWorter I think. Poor Charlie had a stroke a few years ago and as much as he has tried it is almost impossible for him to play anymore. I guess he decided to sell the cue as it is too hard on him to keep around. It has a great case too. The cue is supposedly is first one with points(6)This is too big a coincidence not to be the same. He also was part owner of a pool room in Scotts Valley buy mostly he always hung out at Fast Eddy's.

update

Easy Street is the place to go. The Blue Fin closed a couple of years ago. My wife and I traveled over that way. I was excited to go to the Blue Fin. It was Upstairs in a mall. They had closed the week before we got there. Was really disappointed.

Found Easy Street. Four or five blocks away from the wharf. Top Shelf room, great people, great food, awesome room.

Don't miss it!:clapping:

The Blue Fin was finally taken over by someone else after a few years sitting idle after Anigonni ran it into the ground. Sound familiar?
I don't know what they are going, the building owners offered it to me awhile back but the investment and cost was just too much. Great location for year round traffic though but makes for a better night club the way it is set up inside. Plus the owner did not want to do any improvements. Duh?

No sandbagging allowed. lol.

I like dumpy places!:D Do you serve food? Are the waitresses cute?

Best looking in town, just not a lot of them.

We have a auto fry. Serve all the greasy stuff, wings, strips, fries, etc. etc.

Cool. I may be able to make it out to a tournament, but I get up pretty early for work, so if it runs late I won't be there. Maybe a weekend visit!
