I took a lesson from Scott last month, and I have to say I've seen a big difference in my game. Scott helped me get a preshot routine, and helped me fix a problem I had with a grippy back hand. I also learned how to settle my eye movement into a predictable pattern. This has done more to improve my consistency than anything else. I am still having problems putting unintended english on long straight shots, and I admittedly haven't had a chance to really practice the mother drills or watch much of the taped lesson. I will say that even though I haven't practiced, I have played most every day. It took a while for what Scott showed me to kick in. I had so much stuff running through my head I couldn't concentrate on the task at hand. I got my ass handed to me for a couple weeks, and then all; of a sudden everything clicked and fell into place...
I play in a weekly 8 ball tourney(double elim race to 1), and usually do pretty good. Last week I finished 4th, just out of the money. Last Saturday they started running a 9 ball tourney (double elim race to 2). I'm not really a 9 ball player, but I was there and I entered.
First rack, I break and drop 6 balls, the 9 just off the corner pocket. I make an easy 3 in the side, but fail to get position for the 5. I have to bank it down to the corner where the 9 was. I pocket the 5 nearly scratching in the process, and have to shoot diagonal one corner pocket to the other to pocket the 9 (this is on a barbox), and I dogged it. I was so excited about the break and the tough bank. that I blew the easy shot. I lost the next game and go to the 1 loss side. I won every match to make it to the final. I have to play the guy who put me on the 1 loss side for the win. The format for the final was a 4-2 race, with me (1 loss side) needing to take 4. I take second place with a 3-2 match.
The night before last I got into a 25 50 9 ball ring game (5=25 cents, 9=50), and went home with about 7.50 in change, so I'm beginning to like 9 ball.
Last night was the 8 ball tourney. I went undefeated until the final match on the win side. I rattled the 8 on a relatively easy cut shot, and left it hanging there for the loss. I go to the 1 loss side and play the winner of 2 guys I put there. I win my game and get to play the guy who won the winner side. Because I'm on the 1 loss side it's a 2-1 race. He left me with 1 ball on the table and I took second again last night, but once again it was an error on my part that cost me the game.
Now these are just rinky dink local tourneys, and my combined winnings was $65, which isn't bad for a $5 tourney. I will be there at the 9 ball tourney tonight, and I have expectations to win it all.
Scott, Thanks again for the time you spent with me. You have helped my game tremendously, and if a recommendation from a banger will help, you sure have mine.
