I'm thinking of trading !

I've owned and played with cues from a lot of the elite cuemakers, and as far as hit and playability goes Scruggs rate in my top three. The other two are Hercek and Chudy. My Scruggs is flat faced with the radial pin and solid SS joint.

Hey Tommy! Good luck on finding the right Scruggs. I played with a plain jane BEM Scruggs with 5/16x14 piloted SS joint for about 2 years and loved it. Now am getting used to my Bender with DPK shaft and loving the change. I'm keeping the Scruggs, though, just in case...
:p

there'd be a lot of cuemakers out of business if everyone agreed with you

I agree with daniel 100%. I have spoke to several top cuemakers on this subject and all of them say the same thing, that probably 90% is in the shaft.

Wow that's an excellent TS collection Cuesblues.

Great offer by Buck15 to offer a test drive of his TS in Detroit. If you don't have acces to several TS cues, I'd definately take him up on that Tommie.

Selecting a cue that looks and feels best to you is such a personal thing. Play with as many makers and brands as you can before replacing that Hercek. IMHO you can't beat the feel/balance/playability/consistent hit/craftsmanship of a Scruggs or Mike Cochran cue. There is no such thing as 1 magical cue or cuemaker but I'll never sell my two TS favorites!

Thanks for noticing. It looks like we have similar taste in cues. I've found that most custom cues play great, some are exceptional, but some of my old Ernie Martinez cues 1992 to 2000 are as close to the "magical hit" as you are going to get. I traded away a 4-point Tim Scruggs that also was in that exceptional group.

I would like to get a tip repair lathe, so I could experiment with various tips to see if the tip is the main reason for the variance in hit from cue to cue.

They're all magical! Why do people think they're some magic to certain cuemakers? If you can play a good house cue is the nuts! I get so sick & tired listening to people trying to explain the "hit" of cues. If you have a good shaft with your tip preference thats the trick. If you can play you already know that.

Amen Brother.

I'm having a hard time deciding between Kevin's Gorgeous Scruggs, or pretty much any of BluesCues....... This place makes me drool too much....
But, with that said, I've never hit with a Scruggs that I didn't like.
Depending upon the materials used in the forearm, etc. I tend to like the radials better though.
Of course since I like almost anything with cocobolo or ebony, or burl, or...
you get the idea.

Some damn nice cues guys!

this is only partly true....

I have owned around 40 custom cues and many of them had very different types of hits..... There is definately a difference....

but you are correct in saying that a good player could use a house cue with a decent tip, without loosing much.....

Enjoy! The eight point cue is never for sale!

It is a Scruggs.
Of the piloted joint cue and the radial pin cues and the steel and the ivory joint which do I like best? Tie!
I play with the eight pointer. I like the FF-steel joint because I think it is as close to indistruuctable as possable..
If I traveled alot I would have the ivory. It adjust to differant climates and allows for changes so it helps you to get on your game because you need to adjust less. The ivory does it for you! If you play good enough to know what is happening every little bit helps.
Nick :)
