The Iceman just recently visit my native City, that is , Cebu City
the second most important city here in the Philippines outside Manila.

The guy is a true gentleman and a good ambassador of the sport.

Here's the article that features his visits here.

Great stuff, Cebuano. I know Mika very well and have played him many times in New York. One thing I've always liked about him is he always comes into a poolroom nicely dressed. It makes a nice impression.

You're very right sjm. As the article said, that here in the Philippines pool
is very popular (rotation and 9 ball is the more popular) however it has to
shake its shady image (as probably is like there in the US). As third world
country as ours seeing someone playing with no shirt is very common,
but of course at times the poverty of material possessions betrays their
skills in pool :D (so better watch out!), much like the brazilians with their
love for the game of football (by the way the Iceman did mention that
one time in an interview comparing pool in the philippines as to football
in brazil). And of course the gambling, drugs and cons and the likes are
still abundant here. But thank God there is a lot of improvement here
as far as the descency of the game is concern when the likes of Efren
and company plays on televised tournaments. And once again pool
are mushrooming around the country so to speak.
Yes mika is one class guy, i mean yes when he comes to play he will
dress up well and that could give a lot of lift as far as the image of
pool is concern. If you look at Efren before during his earlier stint in the
US the way he dressed is honeslty quiet kind of shabby but if you look
at him now, Efren and others dress well compared before, and more so
speak a better of English :D .

And by the way Mika's coming here and setting up of tournament will
give boast to our city and the metropolis coz we are much known for
good beaches as well as good resorts and hotel here, so setting up
tournament will not just raise the level of pool here and its image but
would give added benefit to our city.

Noy, I hope Mika enjoyed; Cebu's famous Halo-Halo ( ice slush with different fruits), seafood and island hopping.

Yup, I think your very right Joey, and not just halo-halo how about our
famous dried mango, masarial, otap, world class guitar!!! And i know
Mika likes the beach and we have plenty here and of course island hopping
coz there are many islands near cebu which is very near and one of the famous is the Olango island famous for its bird sanctuary. Migrating birds
coming from Australia stays there.

By the way you've been before Joey ?

I was in Cebu back in '84 for about a week. There was a US embassy there then.

Wow! how the world how become smaller right now..

And you know what since 84 there are a lot of improvements here
in Cebu. There are now around 6 malls here in Cebu not counting
the smaller ones. And hotels here are sprouling we have Marriot here,
Shangrila, Waterfront to name a few. Our traffic is comparably well
managed compare to Manila.
Colon street (the oldest street in the country ) is no longer the
center attraction for business activity to say the least.
But unfortunately with all this improvements, comes the price
as with all other growing urban centers. Crimes are higher
compare to the older days. :(

Here's a website to remind you of Cebu.

Thanks for the read CebuanoNiNoy, it just goes to show how much more popular the sport is over there than it is here, Mika could walk till he collapsed over here without anyone knowing his name yet in the Phillipines everybody knows him.
