I really loved that Ron Haley cue that's been shown here. Especially the thin black veneers, so I thought I'd give those a shot.

I think it looks good so far. We'll see how it looks when it's all finished.

I'm sure Ron would be flattered. At the Super Billiards Expo, we were jokingly calling them Black Papyrus Veneers. Ron's work is a great motivator. Your first attempt is really good, that thin black line will highlight any errors, and I sure can't see any. Pretty sedate colors for you :D. Should be a great finished product.

I appreciate the compliment. I know I'll never build a cue as nice as what Ron has, but figured I really liked the thin black lines. I figured it would be a true test of how good my miters were as if they weren't perfect, the lines wouldn't line up. I guess I got lucky on this try.

As far as the colors go, they are a bit tame for me, but figured the black lines would really highlight what I did use, so didn't want anything to take away from them.

Hopefully I'll get some inlays in this cue. I have a few ready for inlays, but haven't been happy with my test pieces yet, so I haven't cut into an actual cue.

Very nice Tony!

I saw the thread title & the pics before I looked at your user name & read the body of your thread. I was thinking you were posting pics of your Haley under construction before I realized who was posting.

That's quite the compliment to me, but probably just the opposite to Ron Haley.

I just hope it doesn't upset him that I borrowed this style from him. I really loved the look on all the cues that have been posted and plan on trying a few more like it. Of course, his cues have a lot more going for them than just the veneers. Those are the easy part.

I will post pictures of the cue when completed. All that is done so far is what you can see. There is a mistake on the other side of the cue where I got a little carried away with the band saw when I was trimming down the glued in points and cut a little too deep. It will turn out, but I will end up about .005"-.010" thinner at the joint than normal. Not a big deal, but will make my points a little shorter than normal. Still should be plenty long though.
