I am really considering getting one. Anyone know how much more deflection you get witha 30" shaft on a 60" full cue? I started playing witha 60" cue a few years back and am going to stay with it. Will Royce do a custom 30" shaft black collar G10 pin.

Just e mail Royce on the OB-1 page................he would be the best to answer your questions anyway.

Bill,

You could order that straight from us or from Platinum. I think Platinum would probably give you the best deal. Just tell them that we emailed about the 30” and they will send the order to me to build.

Royce,
Thanks for the information. I guess I would order directly from you for a 30” shaft? Or from Platinum?

Bill,

We can make a 30” cue shaft, but it is a special order. There is no additional cost, but does take a couple of weeks to get them built.

Royce,

I was wondering if you make an OB-1 for Radial pins that is 30” long? I tried your website and Platinum Billiards and a few others, but couldn’t find the answer to this question.

Thanks, but every one that knows (or should I say thinks they know) anything says 30" is more deflection. Well how much more?

What about a thinner tip? Like 12mm instead of the standard 12.75?

i dont know how relevant this is, but i originally started out with a 30" ob-1 on my schon, and I couldnt hit the side of a barn with the doors closed with it. At 30" the shaft was a little thicker than i liked (royce recommended that because he likes a certain taper to maximize the shafts performance), and maybe that was the problem, but I noticed i wasnt making many shots and i finally lined up some straight in corner pocket shots with the cueball about 2 foot from the object ball, and i made like 3 out of 10! I ended up sending the shaft back to royce and had him take it down to 29" and for some reason that made all the difference. Ive had 60" inch cues in the past, i even have a 31" shaft for my schon that makes it 60", but for some reason that 30" was all over the place for me.

It seems to me that since deflection is mostly determined by the last 4-5 inches below the tip, a 30" shaft may have no more (or less) deflection than a 29" shaft.

Well thanks for the response guys. I want to keep this topic open as long as possible. My game over the years has really improved mentally, but sometimes I miss a shot so bad when I need to stroke whitey, that I wonder if it's because upgraded to a 30" shaft on a 30" butt. I loooooveee the balance on this cue, but will go back to a standard 58" cue if this is my issue. I feel there is something thats' beyond my control when I shoot sometimes.

What are peoples opinions on a 29" shaft on a 30" butt?

You asked about a smaller tip than 12.75...................Royce and company made mine at 12.2mm

From what I understand 12.2 is the smallest and 12.75 is the standard.

So along with the smaller tip, did you also go with a different taper too?. Which do you think help more with your accuracy?

I personally like the smiller tip diameter, just personal preference. I don't know what the taper is; to be sure I would have to ask Royce.

i am tall with long arms and thought a longer stick was the way to go too. For some reason the longer cue just never felt right, almost like it hindered my ability to follow thru (the tip would dig into the table and stop my stroke). I took some lessons with my 58" cue and found i shot my best that way, sold my 60" stuff (except for a 31" schon shaft) and never looked back. I might could have learned to shoot with the longer cue, changed my bridge or something......but honestly the best feeling combo ive shot within the 60" variety is with the 31" shaft on a standard 29" butt. You might want to try getting a cheap one and shooting with it to see.
