...what percentage of them have come to you (in your opinion) exactly as described?

I had been looking for an old Mali cue and was very excited recently to win one in an eBay auction. Unfortunately, though, when it came my excitement became disappointment. The cue was listed as being straight with both the butt and shaft apart and a slight taper roll when together. Well, the butt ended up being warped in to spots (in the handle and at the joint) and the shaft has a definite wobble. This is magnified when the cue is together.

The seller also listed the tip diameter as 13mm and it is 12.2mm.

Now, I'm going through this big mess of trying to get either a full or partial refund from the seller. After a week of messages back and forth I have now opened a case through eBay, although I'm not holding my breath on anything.

The whole process has been very upsetting. I hate to feel that you can't trust individuals to be honest. I'm not sure how I feel about buying on-line again. I'm sure I will, but I'll be a lot more thorough (and specific) with my questions next time. I will also pay using my credit card when using Paypal from now on as well. I did a bank transfer just because I like dealing with cash I actually have. If I had used a credit card this wouldn't even be an issue as far as getting a refund because the credit card company would have taken care of it. Lesson learned.

So, how many of your on-line purchases have garnered you a cue from the seller in the exact condition stated?

Thanks,

J.

A guy just asked me if I would send my cue to him if he paid shipping. It's on the Fs/Ft/wtb forum, This is my first time buying/selling online but Im not stupid. There is a trust factor(escrow), but if the description is detailed, and you use the ways around thieves(not saying man who messaged me is a thief) that this website provides you a lot less likely to get ripped off.

two things

The folks on e-bay tend to be pretty generous with their ratings of whatever they sale, I usually bid on something a few grades lower than they claim. That wouldn't have helped much here though, warpage is a major deduction if it is anything significant. One issue is one person sees a very slight roll out, another person doesn't and it is somewhat of a subjective call.

That brings me to the next thing, a lot of people selling sticks on e-bay are pretty clueless about sticks so they genuinely don't know what they are talking about. I have gotten good deals from folks with little or no feedback but it is much safer to deal with people with a good bit of feedback from cue deals or whatever you are buying from them. I bought a few hundred toy pool balls from a lady who wasn't a pool dealer thinking I would use them for counters. Turned out that they were in sealed new bags but not complete sets as advertised and the same numbers were missing from all sets making them useless for my purposes. The lady would have refunded but it was a small deal so I told her no big thing and dropped it. She is a good dealer but simply didn't know what she was selling. One clue might have been 12 balls in each bag!

Allways use paypal when buying online, if you dont feel safe using a credit card then buy a prepaid visa/MC and use that. I buy stuff all the time online and have had some probs but when using paypal I have gotten my money back so other than a time waste it was ok.
