I would like some input what is your prefrence of tip brand size and why

also i wanna know if im gonna be drawing the cueball alot which tips and sizes are good as of now i have a walmart cue with a dime sized elkmaster and i am gonna have a players with a le pro

lepro tips have been the standard for me for over 25 years. i've played with many tips but what i like ablout the lepro is when the tip wears down the play only gets better. with other type tips as the tip wears down you get many more misscues and such. the only issue with lepro tips is they mushroom out after time. to prevent this when installing them shape the sides of the tip with a slight conical taper from the ferrule edge to the tip "dome" edge, color it with black permanant marker and burnish it wit a peice of leather. this way when the tip trys to mushroom it will just fill the original "flat" side if the tip and with proper care stay that way. they take some maitenance but they are well worth it. i learned this technique many years ago from an old friend of mine Dick Weaver. he is one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to the playability of cues. :)

thank you for your replys i know that stroke comes first but tip affects play too and i was just wanting to know what tip i should use i like the lepro tips i had one once right as i was starting out installed on my Viper but i hit a masse wrong and too hard and the tip flew off but while it was attached to the cue it was a good tip but im a novice so i didnt want to go by what i thought was good i wanted input from you guys

thanks,

It was Triangle for a couple of years but my new absolute favorite is Hercules Hard. Just give it a good tapping before each session and away you go.
Gives great feedback and allows for excellent spin of the cueball. I never thought I would like such a hard tip but there is no way I could go back now. I know Triangle is supposed to be a hard tip but it actually feels mushy compared to the Hercules.
I may try a Talisman X-tra Hard too.

EDIT: Size I would say depends on how small you go with the diameter of the shaft. Mine are anywhere between 12.75 and 13.25 and are nickel shaped.

my favorite

My favorites are the Talisman medium tips in 13 mm.The Talismans seem to hold chalk well and it takes a lot of play to wear them down to replacement size.I think a lot of the top cue makers(i.e. Richard Harris) count on them also.:)

You ask but don't listen!

You asked us for our opinion on the purchases of the Players Graphite cue. Ten people told you don't buy a Graphite cue, you did not pay any attention. As far as tip goes you should if it does not have one, put a hard tip on that graphite cue, use it for a break cue and go buy yourself a wood cue for your playing stick.:)

well see heres the thing its not that i dont listen i posted the thread and no one had replied so i bought it then 5 mins after the purchase order went through they said the cue sucked. everyone makes mistakes man and on the second thing i cant buy another one i am not made out of money i wish i was though then i would have a good cue and at the moment i cant save all my money either becasue i have to buy other stuff ex. food i have to pay for my own food i have to pay for many things which has kept me from getting a good cue but hopefully soon i will get a good one but actually at the moment i dont think i need a good cue becasue with my novice ability i would probally damage a good cue.

thanks for all your replys,

Used triangles for many years, when the quality dropped I went to moori mediums. Great tips, havent seen a bad one yet. The spin you can get from these things is amazing, with a hard tip you better have a good stroke if you want spin. With the moori.... you can stroke however. I have tried to miscue with them, and the only miscues I can cause is waaaaay off center hits (where you know there is going to be a miscue)
I fought the layered tip craze for years, but finally broke down. Now I see why they sell so well.

Please toss a period in those paragraphs, makes my head hurt trying to read any of your posts. The grammar I can deal with, longwindedsentancesthatrunonandon, I cant.:D

I used a LePro for 30 years (btw never had one mushroom) recently switched to a Moori medium, man these tips are nice.

FWIW if you are just starting out, get a cheap cue put a nice tip on it and work on your game. Sounds like you are doing this. I said the same thing to a guy last night who was just starting as well.

You may have to try a few tips first to find one you like. Everybodys taste (feel) is different.

A graphite cue isnt the best to start out with but what you got will do until you are ready to move up.

my .00035 cents
