Can Someone please help with Value of my MODEL J PALMER

How do you tell if its a Spain blank or a Szamboti blank?

Who to use to Restore cue wrap, ferrules, refinish to original?

Thats a really nice model J. You can use proficient billiards, or if you want it finished with something close to the original finish, contact Paul Rubino. He has worked on more vintage cues than anyone else I know.

Ditto....nice cue !! I don't know that I'd do a whole lot other than just a basic clean-up. If everything's straight and solid, you've got a gem in that one. If finish is actually missing on the forearm, then...yeah....probably needs a refinish.

PS - not sure if Jim Buss is still working on old Palmers, but I've seen some he's worked wonders on.

I believe Chris stated that points that are high are Szamboti blanks .. he can recommend a person for a refinish and he speaks highly of proficient billiards as well.

Chris' website is very informative for everything but value
any ideas for value in original vs refinished value

Is it like on Antiques where original is worth a mint
and some fool stripps it down any refinishes only to have a
Shiny new WORTHLESS stick

Most older cues (Palmer, Balabushka, Paradise, etc.) are worth more in their original condition, regardless, than those same cues refinished even by very reputable people. If a cue could be refinished by the original maker (ie: an old Ginacue or Tad, refinished by Ernie Guiterrez or Tad Kohera himself), then the value should be maintained, imo.
