I recently picked up a used Joss cue and am looking for some more information on it, mainly as far as production era, materials and approximate value. Any information will be appreciated! I believe it to be bacote, but I don't know what the inlays are made of. I suppose this is my first "real" cue, as I've had a couple Players, a Viper and a Vintage before this. It feels much different than all of those did, but I like it.

Those were made in the 90's. I had a couple of them and there were variations of them as well such as different buttcap's. They are good playing cues and you will be a lot more satisfied with it than the other cues you listed.

Looks more like Cocobolo to me. I had one of these when I moved to SC, mine wasn't the same wood in the butt, however. Your points might be rosewood, I'm not sure. Got it off friend real cheap, like $40.00. Bought a predator shaft for it but the pred sucked and I sold the cue with both shafts and made a bit of money off it.
Early '90s would be right.

Not an expert but looks kinda like Cocobolo, Purpleheart points and a maple forearm. I don't think that is the original shaft either. The original was wood on wood (could be wrong). Google Joss Cues and send your info in to Dan Janes, he's always answered my questions about my old Joss. Very nice guy. Good luck. Ron.

Wasn't wood on wood on those cues. Plain black ring, like most every other joss shaft that has been made since the 90's.

As far as value, not all that much. I have one, think its the fifth or 6th one of these I've owned. Usually sell them between 100-150 depending on condition. Can be found for less.

Thanks for all the quick responses! The inlays are definitely not purpleheart, and there is a fair amount of variation in the color of the 4 of them, most darker than pictured. Might be rosewood. Conditon isn't 100% but it sounds like I got it for a pretty good deal. Can anybody tell me anything else about the shaft/ferrule/tip from the pictures?

Forearm: Made up of a very hard wood from South America called Katalox (pronounced cat-ah-losh). Starts out dark brown but will turn almost black in time but still holding the wood grain. The points are made of cocobolo

94-B or 95-C depending on how high the points go.
B probably for bacote (higher points) C for coco (lower points)
168.00 to 184.00 new back in mid ninetys.
Shafts all came with black collar.
Pics from old Joss catalog with the A series.

I am no expert, but none of that sounds correct. Anybody have some input on what the handle/butt are made of? (or anything else for that matter...)
