New CNC lathes in the Weinstock Custom Cues shop.

(SECOND PICTURE IS A UNIQUE PRODUCTS TAPER SHAPER....thanks willee for bringing that to my attention)

Joel designs and builds them himself. He started doing so about 5 years ago and let me tell you I've watched his machines run and they are the nuts.....perfect inlays every time.

Thought you guys might enjoy a peek.

If anyone needs more info or has interest in a custom designing your own CNC lathe for your shop then just PM me with your questions.

He has been on a sabatical from building cues for a few years to fully focus on his machines and these are some of the ones he has developed.

I'll post technical info hopefully sometime soon.

Joel and I ended up talking this mourning about the lathes.....he decided that he is NOT GOING TO BE OFFERING CNC EQUIPMENT AT THIS TIME. He's been working just equipment for some time now and very much wants to just get back into the full swing of things in regards to cue production. We decided it would be best to wait to offer the CNC lathes untill later when the BIG SHOP is fully functional and tooled out. He really doesn't have the room or the time right now to really get into building a new lathe for a customer.

Very sorry to get everyones hopes up as I know some of you were interested. BUT Joel did say that he would not mind consulting with anyone that is trying to build their own.

It was a good idea when we first talked about it then as the night went by we realized that it could really get in the way of his cue building, and his direction as of now must be that of cue production. The timing is just wrong at the moment.

I hope you can all understand our reasons b/h this decision....I'm 100% positive that this is the right decision.

More details at bottom of thread.....

best wishes,

Have to agree - WOW - a lot creamed in there. Old stereo with a Vinyl player
on the top. A lot of "self made" as I can see - with some well known chucks :-)

Yes its just a "little" shop.....thats just a spare bedroom in his house.

BUT.....he's sitting on almost an acre and on the other side of the yard is a really big, huge SHOP.

He was doing all of his cue work in his garage when he had his other place. He sold it then moved to one of his rental propertys right by the interstate.

He has just been taking his time the past few years to work on the CNC lathes instead of the cues.....if you've ever owned one of Joels cues you know how well they play, I have rarely ever heard or seen one of his cues in the secondary market.

He wanted to build the CNC b/c he knew the industry was headed to that direction. So he decided to sell his old engine lathes (lathe was making cues for 40 years...first for viking, then verl horn, then joel, now Ken Quarters cue spot owner)

He wanted to build a CNC lathe with the highest tolerance and have 4 axis capability and 48" of travel.

His first design was big and bulky but did the job perfectly....that was about 4 years ago.

He and I both loved the idea of the cuemonster but he needed something more specific for himself so he set out to build his own

Joels lathes are capable of manual work and CNC all in one.

All i did was help the man with the computer and got some friends of mine to give him a hand in the beginning.

He ran with it and learned it all from the ground up. From the programming to the actual build.

I can't say enough about the mans equipment.........

Again even tho we are not going to be offering any CNC lathe packages at this time, JOEL has offered to help anyone that need help in building/troubleshooting/repair of your current or future CNC equipment. He is open for consultation of any kind in regards to the topic at hand.

For more information on a build/pics/specs/ etc....on the CNC lathes just PM me and we will get back with you as soon as we possibly can.

Once again we are verry sorry for any inconvenience or broken hearts that may have occurred ......

I believe the sounds of your shop would be plesant, I think I could live next door to you without a problem.
When will you begin showing progress of the 4 pointer curly purpleheart?

Actually his equipment isn't loud by any means.....you can sit right in front his equipment while running and talk in a normal voice....that is a very nice quality to not have really loud equipment......he's sittin on an acre so just bring your pup tent brother!

As for the old house cue i got from you....I'm Not sure.....The points were chipped out so I'll have to glue the points back down so i don't tear them out while turning it.....I took a slice off the very back end and tho I'm pretty sure the cue won't be "Purple" the brown color it has from being in UV light for however many years is basically through and through the wood. But with the nice dark grain lines and curl it's still should be very pretty....

I've been waiting on a few more parts and such b/f I started messing with it. Even tho the points were chipped out you can see where the forearm slots for the points stop basically dead even.

Hi Keebie... your correct. Joels old bulkey Logan dedicated to taper bars still runs every day as well as the old bulkey Logan 11 x 36 Powermatic with a couple of Unique Cue Companions in a 12' square pro shop in our 43 year old room Q-Spot Family Billiards, Tulsa,OK. The pro shop was designed for one person so it is frequently crowded with Joel "creating" and commenting "the CNC stuff is fun but you need some real iron to build metal jigs and fixtures" LOL Gene(blonde 9 ball loser) and Renee La Viness of Crown Cues, stream our weekly tournaments and they have added some pictures of our place to the websites for those of you who might want to take a peek. Have a wonderfull day.

Well HI Ken its been a min since we have spoken, next time I'm in town I sure will make a stop to visit.

Its always good to know that the equipment is still doing cue work.....hope it never stops doing it. Your right about having the heavy equipment to do the metal jigs and fixtures.....Thats my only hold back down here...I have stuff I could and would make if I had access to the equipment....but oh well you have to start somewheres right?

By the way thanks again for letting me jump on the lathes in the pro shop last February.....i wouldn't have been able to play with the cue that week if you didn't.

Thanks for the update on Gene's match.....that had to bring a few laughs I'm sure.

As always Ken keep up the wonderful job your doing with Q-Spot and tell Cheetah I said hello.

your friend,
Keebie
