Installing felt

Is there a trick to installing simonis table felt?I am a pretty handy guy and wanted to know what I'm getting into? The rails will be done also as will new rubber cushions also.

I'm sure the pro's here can give some advice. I just wanted to chime in because I installed new Velocity Pro last weekend (similar to Simonis). The bed cloth is pretty straight forward if you use the Simonis installation guide on their website. The side pockets were the biggest problem for me...hopefully someone has some tricks they can share.
I spent 10 hours replacing my bed and rail cloth so plan on more time than that since you are installing new cushions also.
One piece of advice I can give is to not skimp on the staples when covering your rails. I put my staples about 1" apart and now I am seeing puckers under the rails. I now have to pull the rails and see if adding staples between the existing ones will smooth it out. Good luck.

Ya know, if simply recovering your own table was as easy as just doing it, there wouldn't be so many hacks out here on the market today. I place the stables about an 1" apart on the rails I recover and have no puckers....so technique must play a part in recovering the rails. There is just no simple way of just telling someone how to recover a table. This is the reason that I'm coming out with DVDs on how to recover tables. Why are you so willing to replace your own rail cushions, and recover your own table? Isn't there someone in your area that can do that? Just simply wanting to save the money that you would pay someone else to do the work...then ask how to do the work...for free...seems kind of unfair to those who've spent years making a living doing this kind of work. I'm not trying to offend you, nor anyone else...but it does kind of bother me a little to see these kind of requests, but at the sametime...I understand that you can't just simply go down to your local library and check out the reading materials needed to recover your own table. But, please understand that myself as well as many others like me, are not so willing to just give away the knowledge for free that we have spent years to acquire and therefore make a living selling that knowledge in the form of "Working" for a living.

That was the next question

I wanted to see the difference in the amount I would save. The table needs to be set up completely any way.The rails have come unglued and I wanted to change then any way.I only paid 300 for the table a golden west and I knew what the expenses were going to be anyway.I will be moving in a few months and was going to wait to set the table up once. But I figured If I could do it myself then I would give it a shot.No offense taken.

My advise is, If you want it to look Professional, then pay someone to do it once. If you want to learn something new and don't mind the imperfections, then have a go yourself. I can bet 1st time up will not be right. It is like leveling a table. One persons idea of level may not be the same as another. My spirt level for instance is graduated in .001 inch per foot. My level is off the scale when another is bearly off centre.Either way you will learn something. Trades people spend alot of time learning their craft. I don't blame them for not giving it away. But you may find someone in your area willing to give some guidance on setting it up. Covering is only part of the deal. I have seen alot of well covered tops and rails , only to see that it is way out of level or the rails not straight and square.Good luck on your endeaver.

Please, do not bring up the word certified.
LOL LOL LOL
Certified...as in tested and passed...is more along the lines of being a billiards tech...LOL

Glen

PS. It's still going to take some practice as a technician to get it down pat...even with the help of the DVDs, but...if you study hard, retain what you learn...you could be years ahead of the game in no time.
