Installing pool table on new carpet

Getting ready to finally put carpet under pool table. Is there anything I need to think about as far as settling of the table is concerned? Should I ceramic tile under the table? Pool table will be in basement on heavy pad and 1/2" carpet. I worry about table becoming un-level in-time. Thanks...

Here's a thread with what is probably the best possible solution to this problem.

I am not a mechanic and hopefully one will chime in, but I do have a good friend who put a table on new carpet and gradually became severely unlevel. It is not an extremely high quality table, but decent and I have no idea who installed it. What I do know is it was initially level, no doubt. Now, it has rolls bad along one rail.

You'll get a better response in the "ask the mechanic" forum. The experts prowl in there and your post will stay on page one a good deal longer.;)

Here is one of the best ways of dealing with it if you dont have time to wait for the weight of the table to "set" into the carpet before install. Otherwise the frame will shift ever so slightly as it settles into the carpet over time and that means the slates will shift.

I had a GC3 installed on carpet, keeping it level was my concern too when I talked to my table mechanic. He said it shouldn't be a concern because the table is heavy enough to settle within the first few hours.

Table in basement

I have an 8' OS in my basement & have it sitting on tile with wall to wall carpet on the rest of the floor. Best of both worlds. Looks great, table is stable & carpet is easy on the feet when playing. Another plus is that you can store stuff under your table, IE ball polisher, etc., & not worry about marking up the carpet.
