I am a skill level 7 in the APA. Several years ago i had professional pool lessons by the great Mark Wilson. I'm looking for everybody's opinion, "what is the top three instructional vidoes on the market today for the intermediate player"? Thanks, Woody

Aside from Randy and Scott's Videos, I'd add, the banking DVD's from Freddy The Beard and the "How to run 100 balls" by Jim Rempe.

What is featured in that DVD Scott?
OFF-TOPIC- Have you ever traveled to Canada for your lessons and exhibitions?

Jimbojim...Vol. 1 details SPF, what is and is not a stroke, how to build your own perfect stroke, including speed control and tangent line physics. Vol. 2 shows some great kicking and banking systems.

I have been to Windsor, but haven't been up to Montreal yet. Get a group of people together, and I'd be more than happy to come up there!

That's not a bad idea! Who knows maybe in the future.....

Videotape analysis sounds like something I'd like :)

When you speak of detailing SPF, does that include the fabled "mother drills" as well?

Perhaps an description of the contents, or a link to a website with such? I am quite interested.... Fathers Day and birthday are coming along in a few months, maybe I can give mama-bear some ideas. :p

justadub...The Mother Drills are not included in the Play Better Pool dvds, although the speed drill (MD 5) is detailed in Vol. 1. The concepts behind MD 1 & 2 are also included in that dvd. Just the drills themselves have little value, unless you know why you are doing them, and how to measure your results. That's why they come with pool school, or private lessons. That's where you learn the why, where, when and how, about how they can benefit the individual.

ROG...Play Better Pool is available from either Randy or I, online at amazon.com, or from any of the normal billiards outlets (bebop.com, poolndarts.com, etc.).

Thanks Scott.

I realize the drills aren't as valuable by themselves, I was merely wondering if the content of the DVD's was expansive enough to be able to include the drills in their proper context.

The reason for my question is that you folks always refer back to Mother Drill this or Mother drill that, so I was hopeful there might be a way to get to some of that info. Oh well, pool school someday... :p

Thanks again.

justadub...I have, over the years, given detailed explainations on all of the mother drills on this site. They are not "secret information"...nor are they a panacea or 'end-all, be-all' for any player. Again, knowing WHY you're doing them (purpose and measurable results) are far more important than the drills themselves.

I get that. Really. As I said, I was wondering if they were presented in context on the DVD's, to try and get to the WHY part.

I realize there is only so much time on a DVD to put in the content that you're trying to get across. And that it isn't as good as in-person instruction. Just trying to do what I can within my current limitations.

justadub...Play Better Pool, Vol. 1 does a really good job explaining the "why" part! The answer, of course, is that they (the Mother Drills) are the easiest way to create an accurate and dependable stroke!
