An intentional foul is acceptable. Have you ever been hooked bad and decided to foul pocketing a hung 9-ball before? Sometimes, it's the shot. If he hit like a retard, just laugh at him...still might be a good shot, take ball-in-hand and be happy. In fact, gash then like a retard if you want to return the favor...lol

Not unsportmanlike

Why is it only unsportsmanlike if it's 4 or 5 balls moved in this manner? Isn't 1 just as bad? Where do you draw the line? 2.7 balls? heh

I think that pretending to trip and scatter 4 or 5 balls with your cue is not usportmalike but stupid, because he doesn't know where all the balls are going. Now as far as pushing through the ball to cause a cluster and accepting the consequences of a foul is just survival and possibly savy. I would put one caveat on this. If he is hooked and the nine is a dead combo, then pretending to trip and moving 4 or 5 balls is time to borrow his cue and rap him on top of the head with it!!

I think all's fair, just a normal foul. In referee'd situations the unsportsmanlike call could come into play.

consider the case where you shoot the duck 9 straight in to spot it instead of fouling to give away the easy easy 1-9 combo. kinda the same deal...

the balls that he was frozen were not pointed at the nine. he just basicly pushed the cue ball thru them and followed it thru with the cue ball at the tip of it. might as well used it as a hockey stick. i would think that either it would be loss of game or the balls would go back where they were, just as if you accidently hit a ball with your shirt or something . we play cueball fouls only. the guy is a top player, gq smith, and i would exspect a little better from such a good player. but, you learn somthing everyday and this and other incidents confirms what i have been warned about for a couple years. to bad.

here another question

in terms of how bad a foul is before it's loss of game, picture this. a friend of mine told me this story tonight. he was playing last pocket 8 ball. all his balls were gone and his last pocket was a corner pocket behind the line. his opponent had ball in hand behind the line but no shot. he takes the cue ball, puts it on the rail behind the guys 8 ball that is in the jaws, and shoots it away from his last pocket, then says here that was a foul, your shot. now that is messed up but shows a pretty good example of pushing the rule for a foul.

According to the table diagram posted here I see nothing wrong with taking an intentional foul...and in the process spoiling a future shot that your opponent may be looking forward to.

Suppose the 9-ball was hanging in one of the top corner pockets...I see nothing wrong with taking an intentional foul by pocketing it...you are giving away ball in hand...but taking away your opponent's obvious game win.

You'll probably still lose the game...but you raise your hope level...and I see nothing wrong with making it a bit more difficult for your opponent. I don't see where it can be ruled unsportsmanlike.
