Coming from north St. Louis in the 60's, I really did not know where to go for a really nice custom cue. Fast forward to later in life, I still did not know but the first Enclyclopedia of Biliards was excellent and helpful, as was Brad's Bluebook.
Reading these, I came accross Dale Patten and because of his corrabortion with Gus Szamboti and his association with west coast legend Richie Florence, (his brother in law). A very good combination for input on making great cues.
I contacted Dale around 1997, but he had retired from making cues. However, one more thing.... Dale kept one cue for himself made out of a Gus blank but never applied the tips. I convinced him to sell it to me.
To start, I have enclosed the write up from the First Edition of the Enclyclopedia of Billiards.
