Hi i was wondering if there is any internet expert who can help me.

my problem:
I'd like to broadcast life on the internet matches of our national tournament.
This would be for starters 1 x month (national ranking events)
There would be around 10 hours of video (the length of a tournament, filming one tv table?). The quality is important. i'd like to have something like 640x420 @ 15fps. i don't mind if some frames would drop, but i'd like to get a continu signal. There would be around 100 people MAX (probably an average of 50) looking at the matches life.

What are my options to set this up?
How much would it cost to set it up?
is there any way to do this yourself or do you have to go to company's?
Can you just do this on your own website with your own webcam or digital camera or do you have to go to servers?
any tips and idea's?

(ps i know a bit of pc's, but i'm FAR from being an expert so please dont use to technical terms). I just want a reality check to see if this is possible and for what price. I'd really like to get some media of pool of our contry in the air, but we are so small that we dont have the BIG $$.. most of the work is done and has to be done by volunteerwork.

Hi there,

There are lots of ways to do it.
You could pay $$$ for a hosting server and load all the responsibilities (bandwidth alloc/storage/downtime fury/etc.) to them. They usually use the flash(tm) technology so theyre easily embedable to their web server pages, and so is convenient to the viewers since all they have to do is load their browsers and watch the show. video hosting companies like kozom at the last predator tournament or the hosting company used by TAR ustream(?) as an example. There are several of these pay per host servers just around the block. Find a reliable host that has(not promised) bandwidth capablility to host your video file straight from your live coverage and etc.

Or, you would opt for a peer to peer system (P2P), wherin every client that is viewing your broadcast would also participate in distributing the stream using their surplus bandwidth or somewhat like that, which AFAIK is more reliable, technologywise.
There are several free clients and indexing server available all over the net so you could broadcast the video for yourself, and for FREE, and let the other users/viewers participate/view the broadcast. It works like a torrent (ie. bittorrent), so the more viewers (your targetted 100 max), then the merrier.

If you have been watching the world pool tournaments recently then you might be familiar with terms like 'sopcat', 'tvu', etc.. viewer/broadcast clients.
We (yours truly from the Philippines, and lots of our chinese friends) have been broadcasting that stream and some even botted several servers they admin :) to participate in the P2P at the time, so that everyone, including our american friends who were a bit stingy with their uploading rates (at those times :p , (major hub/backbone troubles perhaps at the time)) would all be satisfied.

A 350-500kbps rate is expected to be a very much acceptable quality of vidstream, but you would also consider the techniques in processing/converting/compress/etc it. There are lots of free programs available all over the net for this to pipe directly from your dvb coverage. Also consider that all your viewers would have the bandwidth available to view that live stream on that rate.
I tried my best to not sound too technical. Hope this helps a bit.
