IPT cloth question

I am aware that the ipt has a really bad reputation and many members of the site consider it joke..

anyway yesterday I saw a replay of the 2005 world 8ball tourney and it was mike siegel vs a female player jones in the finals for 150,000 and they both were playing pretty crappy (despite the announcers constant praise for seigel) and i was wondering how they got to the finals, were any other top pros in that event?

My real question however, is they mentioned a special slow cloth on the table and they seemed proud of it. I am new to playing serious and am just wondering why are they putting the best players in the world on slow cloth shouldt they put them on some slick simonis cloth to challenge them more or is slow cloth tougher?
 
part of the idea behind the ipt was to play with so called 'traditional' settings, with the game everybody knows (8-ball) and traditional slow nap cloth. it does definitely take a good stroke to move the ball around on the gorina cloth but whther it actually makes for a better game is another issue...
 
The last match I attempted to watch on IPT on their wonderful slow cloth was Robles and whats his name playing 8 ball, it was so boring I literally fell asleep.

They were hand picked. It was only an exhibition.

I finished 3rd in that tournament, if that's any indication.

There was no actual tournament. The idea of this match was to introduce this new tour by putting it on prime time television (albeit not live), and paying a lot of money (175,000 if I remember correctly). They called it the World 8 ball Championships for one reason or another and more or less handed the title and the money to Mike Sigel, which set him up as the King of the Hill the following December. In short, it was a publicity stunt.

As for the cloth, slow cloth is tougher to play on. It takes a much better stroke preform on this cloth.

8-ball on TV or net always puts me to sleep too. I play a lot of league and bar 8-ball, but 9-ball is more enjoyable to watch whether streaming video or TV.
 
The cloth isn't even really slow because it was new. It was faster than most club tables with simonis cloths I've played on.

But it did have HORRIBLE sliding rails that didn't take spin. The result was players avoiding rails like the plague. Playing more like beginners.

The concept sounded ok, but wasn't thought out. Better to shrink the pockets an extra 1/2 inch and play with rails that had normal characteristics so players can actually use some cueing skills.

The pockets weren't even that tight with the new fury cloth. Shots would just slide down rails and drop. Playing power shots, which is what the cloth would supposedly encourage, was the only way to make the pockets play tight.

They need to give up on the nap cloth.
