I dont know if anyone else has mentioned it, but I was looking at the schedule for the next two years of the IPT. It looks fairly exciting. Theres only a few tournaments this year, but in 2007 there will be 11 tournaments and 14 in 2008. This is looking better and better all of the time.

The best part as far as im concerned is the Canadian championships. Originally I thought if I wanted a shot at a Open, I would have to travel to the states, but nope the IPT will be, for one tournament, in my backyard. That makes it much easier to put down $2000 to qualify. Im excited.

It's supposed to be exciting thats why it's there, except none of it is based on anything, no commitments, venues nothing. Just a guy at a keyboard making up names for phantom tournaments and posting them. If they get through this year it will be enough. Ever see the movie "The Music man"?

Cameron,
It was only these 2006 qualifiers that were priced at US$2,000, as it allowed entry into all 4 events this year, and most likely a spot on the 2007 tour for those good enough to qualify.

All other qualifiers, it has been stated, will cost US$1,000 for entry.

It will be interesting to see how many entrants they get for the US-Open qualifier at this fee with 50 spots available.

I figure they will have 25 events around the country with maybe 20 or 30 people at each event willing to pay $1,000 for a shot $2 million in prizemoney.

Even better.

I know the US Open gets somewhere around 250 players, with $500 entry fees, I don't think there is a qualifier is there? Im sure the IPT will get slightly less considering the fee. But then with a $3 000 000 purse (i think) thats pretty enticing to give it a go.

I think comparing the IPT to the US Open, or any other Pro event, is foolish. Sure it costs $200 - $1,000 to enter but go to the IPT website and look at the payouts for the first tournament.

200 entries and if you come in 200 you receive $2,000. If you come in 120then you receive $5,000; If you come in 60th you receive $10,000.

Somehow that sounds pretty good to me.

But of course that is still several months away and many people still don't believe it will come to pass.

But then I remember when August 20th, 2005 was several months away. As was the KOH. And the 1st qualifier and the 2nd qualifier.

Four consecutive events that people said would never come to pass were held and were very successful.

Did I say successful? Boy is that an understatement. When did a tournament ever offer incentive prizes? $5,000 for running 6 racks; Beating Mike Sigel gets you free entry to 3 more qualifiers = $6,000. Sigel beats two players at same time and he wins $10,000. Finishing in top 6 gets you 3 more qualifiers = $6,000.

KT sure is spreading the money around. Probably the profits from the few thousand shares of Google he bought. LOL.

And how about those players who brought their best game to the table and ran 6 racks in a row. Wow. I never expected anyone to run a 6 pack. Just shows that there still are a lt of good players left out there.

That's why I'm glad that this tour was created, so we can see who all is out their that can match up with the pros we already know. Although I can't stand him, Mike Sigel is no joke on the field of green. So to play to guys at one time is something else IMHO. There are a lot of people who can play pool and the IPT will definitely bring them out! :D

We shouldn't forget the great promoters and industry people that have in fact stepped up in the past to put on great tournaments. I think SJM said the same thing a while back. Incentives: Willards and I think McDermott both offered $50,000 bonuses for running five racks in 9 ball in the 80's. Earl Strickland won the million dollar prize for his ten racks at the PCA tournament in Dallas in the early 90's.

What the IPT is doing is great and should be lauded. What others have done, often selflessly and to their financial detriment, should be applauded as well.

I merely stated that $1000 entry fee to get into a qualifier would keep away the pretenders, thus perhaps less people trying to play than at the US Open. Regardless of the payouts I think that is true, how many people try out for the US or British Open in Golf that would be a good comparision.

Do you have to pay the $1000 when enter the qualifiers, or is it a lesser amount and you only have to pay the $1000 if you win?

I'm not sure but for the 1st tournament if you are not an IPT member then you have to qualify for one of those 50 spots that go for $1,000 entry fee.

Otherwise it would be rather stupid to let someone enter a tournament for $1,000 and guarantee that he will win at least $2,000.

So I would expect some more qualifiers before we get to the 1st tournament.
