A. I hung out at legends last weekend watching among other things liljohn struggling to find action. I have great respect for liljohn and others like him trying to keep pool action alive. However, unless the whole thing was kept on the D.L. no serious action happened in connection to the houston open.

B. A major event in the fourth largest city in the country was only a couple of grand added. Bogies this weekend was only a grand added. I enjoyed the houston open and I really like the people who were involved in it but it is still small potatoes.

C. The scrabble championship in New Orleans last year paid 100,000 and I read an article today which says that dominoes might be the next big thing.

THE POINT TO BE MADE FROM A B & C:
Action pool is as dead as king tut. Pro pool is a glorified league night. If we are to hope that pool is not surpassed by dominoes all you IPT opponents need to take a serious reality break and support the F@#*ing thing.

I don't think anybody is against the IPT on this board, but there are a fair number of us who don't think it will succeed.
Pool is hurting because not enough people enjoy it. Personally I think the average person finds it boring to watch and is to intimidated by it to try it in any serious way. They are afraid of failure. Other sports they can enjoy watching it and sit around being a Monday morning quarterback with no threat of failure. When you think about very rarely does the average sports fan go out and actually participate in the sport they "love". JMHO.

I hope the IPT succeeds for many reasons, one being I'm an 8-ball player with VERY limited opportunity to see my sport on TV.

One thing in the IPT's favour is that although the US has 9-ball, in the majority of countries 8-ball is the known game, which "should" lead to a ready built audience(as long as they don't @#$% it up!)

Many of the rules etc, seem to be similar to those played of the World Pool-Billiards Association, which I'm familiar with (played in almost all comps here in Australia, and the UK if I remember correctly). Perhaps they aren't what everyones used to, but people adapt.

Sorry if I've rambled a bit, but it seems that there are plenty of people ready to knock the IPT before it really has started. C'mon, give it a chance, after all, if it works it will be the best thing since sliced bread, and if it doesn't, at least someone gave it a go!

Just to play devil's advocate, it could be that no one was matching up in Houston because they were all broke from trying to qualify for the IPT!

I don't think there are any IPT "opponents" on this board. I see some skeptics, but no opponents.
