Craig.........did you take into account all the free entries?;)

sorry forgot disclaimer, this doesnt account for that. I would suggest subtracting 10-20% from entries giving how complex this would be to calculate. Its just meant as a guide, thought it might be interesting.

BTW
I seriously doubt the first eventprize money was paid as advertised.

According to these numbers, KT is in arrears about one million four, maybe one million five taking into account free entries into qualifiers. The qualifiers took in nearly two million. A nice chunk of change. Add in the revenue from the memberships, DVD sales, sponsors, live gate, IPT apparel and IPT merchandise. KT is not in as deep as one might think.

Probably he is out two to three million. That is, if he has paid everyone, which seems highly questionable now. Like the ex employee said, he took a shot, and when it didn't work out, he bailed.

RIP KT and the IPT

That sure does sound pretty deep to me. Wish I had a few million I could just throw away. Or even a couple hundred thousand. Or even 20 thousand. I sure wouldn't like to lose that amount.

You didn't take into account how much he spent setting up each tournament?

Do you mean how much the qualifiers took to setup? My understanding is they had the room owners foot most of the costs (Covering the tables with IPT approved napped cloth etc.) However not listed (unless The Oncer has already accounted for it) were all the ad-hoc payouts for beating Sigel, 8 balls on the snap etc.

Just to play devil's advocate, what about the conservative $2 million to host the events? What about the lunatic bonuses he was giving out for banking the 8 or running racks? What about the money he had to pay the pros to challenge the qualifiers for free entries? What about the salaries and contracting costs?

Not making excuses for him but certainly he is in for closer to 4 or 5, no?

Taking everything into account the IPT is in the hole for about 5 million at least, (before paying Reno) don't forget about A. Smith and company for production of all 4 events? that cost a bundle. KT had a large camera crew and A. Smith & Co. is a top TV producer.

A. Smith & Co.
Events venues
local union cost for rigging and staging, not cheap and adds up fast.

The Venetian alone was close to a million for all this, and no he didn't get any kind of break on the space, the Venetian is one of the most expensive places to hold events. Everything added up real fast, and Qualifier money minus the free ones did not even come close to covering the purses, let alone all the other expenses.

IPT may have had a fighting chance with smaller prize money, better qualifying system, less extravagant venues, etc..

Too big too soon, he tried to kick start the thing instead of a slow build up, the tour could have went on for 3 years on the same money if you did things slow, and who knows, by then he could have got some better sponsors. It's still workable, I just think KT has lost his interest since it didn't go as he thought.

Nothing at all is funny about the IPT failing (like some think), if it does fail now KT conned himself out of millions:D

The whole failure boils down to one major thing: narcissistic miscalculation. KT lives in a self-created bubble, overestimating his mainstream credibility. He thinks the minority of suckers who purchase his codswallop represent the majority. He thinks he is bigger than life, and people will rain adoration on him for just showing up. Pfffft.

As I've characterized it before -- his name couldn't bring credibility to a skid row flophouse. He sure as hell stood no chance of bringing credibility (and mainstream sponsors, fans, money, etc) to the sport of pocket billiards. He thought his "kick start" would attract some deep-pocketed buyer before the ether wore off and the money ran out. Beyond that, he had no interest in the long term well being of the sport. In the end, he was left holding up the 2x4s behind his skin deep (albeit costly) stage set.
