Just got done watching the robles and boyes 8-ball match. The commentators reference the "slow nap" cloth and they talk about how 'great it plays'

Why on earth would they be playing on slow cloth...or am I interpreting what they are saying wrong

Mike Sigel and Kevin Trudeau (IPT owner) are good friends, and it's what he preferred, I believe. Mike was the main influence behind the creation of the IPT.

bascially the idea behind it was that it was traditional, and that it would bring the best out of players.

Pretty accurate here. Mike preferred the slow "old style" cloth. He felt he could play better on it.

?????

Sigel thought he was a lock if only the conditions could be just like the good ol days. Hey Mike-Time and tide dont wait for no man.

Gorina slow napped cloth, tighter pockets, break box, no jump cues, amended 3 fouls rules, 8 ball.....all theoretically geared to increase the brain power required and get closer to old style games.

Take your pick at which player thinks he is much cleverer than all others and cross-check if he was involved in the formation of IPT?

Nothing essentially bad about playing on this napped cloth after it has aged a little but when newly fitted (which of course it was in most IPT venues at the time) it does produce a lot of unpredictable 'slide' after contact with the rails.
