IPT WORLD 8-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP A RATINGS HIT!
Premiere Event on Fox Sports Net Racks Up Big Ratings

Los Angeles, CA. (Nov. 23rd, 2005): The premiere television event of the International Pool Tour, the IPT World 8-Ball Championship, aired last Thursday November 17th on FSN and resulted in an astounding 25% ratings increase over previous weeks on the network. Both the 9:30pm and 10:30pm prime-time airings of the IPT event on the special edition of FSN's "Best Damn Sports Show Period" bolstered ratings by over 25% in the timeslots, which surpassed expectations from both Fox Sports Net and the International Pool Tour.

"We are thrilled with the ratings success of our first major pool event on prime-time tv in America," said IPT Founder Kevin Trudeau. "It shows that there's a huge and growing audience for pool if it is presented in an exciting, world-class way. The good news for the IPT- and for pool in general- is that we've only just begun. Our next series of tv shows, from our 'King of the Hill' event, will be even more spectacular."

The IPT "King of the Hill Invitational 8-Ball Shoot-out", to be held in Orlando, Florida Nov. 30th-Dec. 4th, will feature 42 of the greatest pool players ever- all playing for a huge $1 million prize fund.

Some of the legendary players participating in the historic "King of the Hill" tournament include Hall of Famers Mike "The Mouth" Sigel, Nick Varner, Jim Rempe, Buddy Hall, Mike Massey, Ed Kelly, and Efren Reyes. Other pool greats competing include Johnny Archer, Allison Fisher and Thorsten Hohmann.

The series of tv shows centered on the event will the most expensive and high production-value programs in the history of pool, and will include "behind the scenes" reality segments and other special features.

"The smash ratings on FSN is a great start for the new golden era of pool," said Jon Denny, Executive Director of the IPT. "It's like the saying: Build it and they will come. We're excited that we're building a powerful tv franchise and brand."

The mouth isn't a bad NN either though.
I was practicing once and Mike was at the next table shooting alone but he still was talking-kinda Earlish

I finally answered him and he was really off to the races-non stop. It was practically stream of consciousness- He was all over the place.

When he got more of an audience i was able to slip back to practicing.

I was also happy to see this release but dared not post it for fear of seaming more of an IPT lackey than I've already been accused of.

I would like to know the actual ratings figures though. How many viewers?

I recently ran an event that had just over 100,000 viewers in Shanghai, a 0.9% rating. Not bad, but I'm hoping there were a million watching the IPT event.

So what were the numbers? 25% increase from where to where? What were the initial expectations for the ratings? Were they above or below 1.0? Are these floating time slots, re-airings, and who else is purchasing advertising space besides Kevin? In which market were these increases recorded, and which time zone/ demographic/ etc? Of course if you sprinkle repeats throughout the week you are bound to see increases and decreases in ratings numbers depending on when/where it aired and what it is up against. No information in there, Deno. People that don't know any better will jump for joy, while those in the know will ask the questions about the information that's not in there. Honesty isn't just about what you say, its about what you don't say, also. You say "Smash Ratings" and then don't provide the numbers.

Excellent points Blackjack, just what is a 25% increase relative to. It may be that the old numbers were low enough that the people tuning in because of this board alone could account for the boast. The first splash doesn't mean that much anyway, what really matters are the numbers for the 3rd and 4th, etc. shows. I dare say if future shows are produced in the same manner as the first one was ratings will drop off quickly. Let us hope that future shows improve on the first one, at least they may have a real contest.

More infomercial hype

Now that you've grown viewership by 25% how about my member?

From what to what?

Two things bothered me about this program. One was the sound, the sound didn't match the video on my screen. Did anyone else notice that? The other thing that bothered me was that they had an announcer and a color commentator (Kim Davenport) and Kevin Trudeau monopolized the mike. I thought it would have been better if Kevin would have said just a couple of things and then butted out. He was really stealing Kim's thunder imho. What did the rest of you think?
