Man...I tried NOT to ask this question and wait for their website, but he's taking to long! :p Who hear on the AZB forums has decided to take a stab at the IPT? If you can't (or are not willing...) to take the plunge, do you know someone who is or has been thinking about it? The way I look at it, when this tour takes off (notice I didn't say "if"...), if I work at it I might be able to try and work my mojo by age 40! (I'm 35 now...) :D :p

Seriously though, it has crossed my mind, and I'm thinking...hell, why not? You have leauges to get you started, a few national amature tourneys to get serious for, and from there, there are plenty of mini-tours to hone your skills untill your ready to take a stab at millions! :D All jokes aside though, who has done it or has thought about doing it?

Several of the guys at Hollywood Billiards are definitely interested in it. I saw Max playing some 8-ball the other night, gearing up for it.

Thanks Steve! Hey, did you ever get my PM? C'mon guys and gals, I KNOW there have been more people who have thought about joining this tour. I know a lot of people are concerned about Trudeau and his past, but do you think Segel would risk his reputation over this?!?

Hey-

Yeah, sorry about not getting around to replying. Sometimes if it's busy here at work I don't reply for a few days if it slips my mind. i'm not at all affiliated with the Universal Smart Shaft, so I don't know if they do blanks or anything about Bill Stroud. If I find anything out I'll pass it along tho.

I'm not sure of all the ins and outs at this juncture. I had thought that the Sigel-versus-Jones match was the launch of the IPT, and if it is successful, then the IPT tour will then follow.

As long as one does not have to sign a legally binding contract threatening injunctions and court hearings AND if a player doesn't have to sign away their rights preventing them from competing in other tournaments AND if a player is allowed to be employed wherever the hell they desire without getting permission AND if a person wants to engage in games of stakes whenever and wherever they feel like without getting admonished, fined, and/or suspended, I don't see anything stopping a pool player -- amateur, aspiring, pro, veteran, Hall of Famer, and/or road agent -- from posting up $899 for membership and $199 per tournament to take a shot at winning $200,000 or $300,000 for first place.

Build it, and they will come. And by God, if the IPT is as good as it sounds, players were be flocking full speed ahead to sign that dotted line. JMHO, FWIW! :p

I think that most players are going to wonder why the schedule has dates that range from Dec. 2005, through Dec. of 2006, but they have only one tournament that has a location mentioned, the 1st one, held in Las Vegas Dec. 6-11 2005, open to people who are members of the IPT as of September 30, 2005.

All the other tournaments have the "to be announced" next to the location.
and the people that can play are IPT members as of October 31, 2005 for all of them.

I'm wondering if they are going to update the locations of these tournaments so that they can be verified, so that people will have a better time parting with the entry fee. Also, since he's got the $$$$$, why not put it in escrow?
Let people see that the money is there.
It would be nice to know WHAT your paying for, and being able to check up on it, as opposed to paying the membership fee BLIND, and seeing a listing of "to be announced" for the years tournaments. (sounds strangely familiar, like ANOTHER organization that we know)

Your exactly right Jam. My dad and I are just waiting for the contract to come out. See the restrictions if any, then signing our lives away :D

Some players in northern cal are considering it but they have concerns that they will put up the dough and then for some reason the tour fails and the 899 is gone. Top players might pay 1100 for one shot at 200,000 to 300,000 but for the shortstops, it would be a lot nicer to have some guarantee they can enter more tourneys after the first one for the 200 fee and have a chance to make some big $$.

There was a gym in my home town that was still selling two and three year memberships to people even though they knew they were going to claim bankruptcy in the next few weeks and close. Big hassle trying to get your cash back...

JAM, Superstar, and Mex: Thanks for the replies!!!

See! I knew it!!! :p :D Man, I wish I the skillset to really think about the tour now.

SuperStar, I was wondering that too, but then I thought, when you are starting something of this magnitude, it could be anything. There might be casinos/hotels trying to propose that they'll be the best to have this tourney here or there, etc. If you owned a casino or an establishment that could host something that would change the game of pool like this, wouldn't you be trying to put in your two cents? This is just one hypothetical senario, but I hope it'd make someone think about the whole picture.

I here what you are saying JAM, and I some ways I do agree with you. As much as I would like for it to happen, I don't think that the IPT, even with all of the prize money that'll be available, would stop gambling. Also, why on earth would you want to limit what a player can and can't do?

If the UPA and other tours got behind the IPT, it would be like the Nike Tour of pool. As long as he or she pays what is asked of them, why does it matter what they do? This kills me, because though poker is as big as it is now, it's STILL GAMBLING!!! But I guess since it's mainstream and anybody can win money...its ok. :p :D

Gearing Up

I've been gearing up my game but I think it'll be a while before I can play :(. As the IPT gains credibility I think businesses will dramatically increase their sponsorship of players. In either case I'll likely either sign up or sponsor someone.

I expect quite a few folks from Australia to do well as they play quite a bit of eight ball over there at a high level. I never really enjoyed it until I played it with some great players there then it became a bit more like straight pool.

I was also waiting to see if there would be an east coast event or events, I sure hope they bring at least one stop to the Atlantic City Casinos, I would think it would be a great event for the Borgota. I always wonder why the AC Casinos are not utilized for pool more often?

I also want to see what the prize money will be, sure we know it will be $200,000 for first, but what about 10th, 15th, 20th etc... Prize money will be 1 million for the first event, so I assume prize money will go to almost all participants, something like golf. Man in golf you can be 30th and still take home a grundle:D

i would be a little sceptical . having to fork out 900 bucks to play in a tournament to be held 14 months in the future.
why not be able to join at any time ??? i.e when the tour is up and running and there has been the promised payouts.

pool players just love having a gamble in the states...

please, please someone put my mind at ease
