Iranian women pool players banned for "un-Islamic" acts

Support secular thought everywhere!

It is the only real way.

Well, that's been tried in places like the old Soviet bloc states. If there is no God, the State becomes the ultimate authority, and it suffers no rivals.

The problem isn't religion. The problem is a religion that never heard of the Enlightenment.

Jay,

I realize this is not NPR but...... I am much more fearful of the so called Christian Right who want to control every facet of our daily lives with THEIR middle ages world view. Too many people misunderstand what separation of church and state is really about.

Lyn

Yeah, it's about keeping the state away from the church, and about "Congress shall pass no law..." It was never meant to keep religion completely out of the public square.

And if you think the Christian Right wants to meddle in your business, I don't think you have a great understanding about what they're about. I don't count myself among them, as I am not a particularly evangelical or religious person, but a greater threat to liberty than radical Islam? LMAO!

Greater? Maybe not. But it is a GREAT threat.
If you don't think they ARE meddling, you haven't been paying attention.
Too much NPR.
Back to pool. :)

Bunk. I pay a great deal of attention. The definition of marriage is a societal question that they have every right to weigh in on without someone else forcing their view upon them. They believe (and I agree) in the granting of human rights to unborn human beings. They also want the freedom to worship as they choose both in and out of church...

Seems to me that in two of those fights, they're trying to prevent others from meddling in their lives, and in the third, are quite justified in meddling on behalf of others.

But yeah, back to pool. I have 1700 more balls to drop in my Zero-X drill.

Driver,

As I said, hoped this would not turn into NPR but..... How many openly assembled Christian militia's are there around the country? They pose as great a threat to freedom. Remember Waco and Oklahoma City. No Muslims there or were there? Kind of like the thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheering at the fall of the twin towers. At least according to some of the POTUS advisors. Pretty silly but some people believe this crap. BOTH are serious threats to our freedom. In your view, obviously not as much. Lets agree to disagree. Why I never post on NPR.

If you didn't want it to turn into NPR, you shouldn't have made an unsubstantiated political post. It's evident that your intent wasn't to avoid politics. It was to avoid having your drive-by opinion challenged.

To lump Koresh and McVeigh in with the "Christian Right", which is generally seen as a large bloc of religiously conservative people with political ideas that tend to reflect their beliefs, is asinine. Koresh was insane and McVeigh was out for vengeance.

That's nowhere near equivalent to a small but growing population that wants to impose Sharia law, or at least be governed by it within their own communities. Your own examples go off the rails, though, since there is no way that any of those fringe groups, no matter how many there are, are able in any way to "meddle in your life".

IIRC, the "thousands of muslims cheering" thing has been debunked, and I wouldn't defend the claim regardless.

If you don't want political discussions, don't bring up politics.
