I was just curious, Do cuemakers ever do
cues with more than one color of wrap?

Like maybe start with, say, a goldish brown
on each end, and a darker brown or black
in the center? Or 2 colors that complement
each other and the woods?

Yes, There was a previous thread that had some discussion I believe. Sorry don't have the link, but believe it was In this section. A good search may bring it up for you.

Use to be popular on Frank Paradise cues. I have one customer that still prefers it on all his cues.

Do you have any pictures of what this looks like? I don't think I've seen anything like that before...

I think I was thinking of this thread with the double wrap, different then what's mentioned here, but I think it looks pretty nice. http://www.azbilliards.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=12634&page=2&pp=15&highlight=linen+wrap

I have seen the style mentioned in this thread in older cues & some old imports, probably copies of The Paradise design. Not sure who does that Kind of thing now, but sure someone has or does. Getting a good, clean seam that's strong between colors seems to be the key to me, but then I have never tried It.

A lot of the old nylon material ( yarn? ) came in two colors. It might be yellow for awhile and then turn black or red and then blue. When you wrapped a cue with the stuff every inch or so it would change color. It would look like a bumble bee.

Picture of double wrap - looks sharp if colors match the cue - not too busy.

Yeah that looks really nice Jack. It matches very well, yet gives the cue a bit of a different look. My compliments. Makes me want to try one :D .

Misunderstood ...

I did not mean interleaving the colors or 2 color speckled
linen.

I meant using a 1 color linen coming in say 6-8 inches,
then using a different color for the middle, and the last
6-8 inches with the first color.

like golden brown dark brown golden brown

each being a solid color.

See the post above yours, Mike posted a picture with what you are requesting.

Yes the one Mike posted should be it. I posted the thread with the double rolled, because that was the thread I thought had the type you mentioned when I first replied. I was mistaken, so wanted to save you the time of searching past threads for something that may not be there. I appologise for the confusion. My bad.

Yes, that's it ...

The way I usually do it on the older cues is 2 1/4 inches each side of white / green and solid black in the middle. Can't find any pictures at the moment.
Correction, http://www.proficientbilliards.com/cues/Palmer/pre_catalogue/pages/DSC02650_jpg.htm

Yes Mike, that is what I meant. If you had a one type of wood
for the whole butt, a very nice looking wood, then a wrap like
that (colors that complemented the wood) might look very good on it.

I dont believe he is refering to verigated or space dyed material,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,try finding an old Palmer catalogue, it has what I believe you are looking for
