I like to use Mohawk Rapid Pads. It is a fine antique furniture polish that is put on finished wood with a cotton ball and you make a swirling motion to create heat and burnish a finish to the furniture.
I just put a cue between centers and at about 2400 rpm and apply the rapid pads with a paper towel. Then take a 3 x 5 index card and hold it to the wrap to burnish it. It smells like a strong glue, we used to call airplane glue. Do that 2 times and you will be happy with the results.
You can also use rapid pads to seal your shafts. This stuff is a top of the line product. I think I bought a gallon of it for $ 70.00 5 years ago.
Go on Mohawks website and you will find it. They also make 4 step polishes for buffing finishes.
Good Luck.
