I really like Elk Master tip on my cue but a lot of players in my room said they are too soft for playing three cushions and I should look for a harder tip, probably multilayered. Honestly I'm not very knowledgeable about cuetips and I didn't know what to reply.
What do you think?

I think if it feels good to you, play with it. Elk Masters, Le Pros, Triangles, etc. aren't multi-layered, but there's nothing holy about layers--they just tend to be more consistent and last a little longer. I play with Kamui Mediums--which I like a lot--in both pool and carom billiards, but I know plenty of people who play with non-layered tips who play great. You'll have to change them out more often because they'll wear out faster, but as long as that's okay you do you.

I understand. The point is I'm not really familiar with cuetips, I basically played with whatever cuetip I got and played for a while with elkmaster and I don't know if I'm missing something by playing with it and should look for harder tips. I just recently switched to three cushions from pool.

That's a good question. Some people like a slightly harder tip for 3-Cushion because the balls have more mass. I like a firm, crisp hit whether playing 3C or pool, so I like the medium layered tips. Since it's subjective, I don't think you'll *know* whether you're missing anything until you give a layered tip a try. Maybe after the ElkMaster you have on there now wears out?

i tried laminated tips sometime ago... I tried kamui black and brown S and M, not very satisfied... they played very hard and glazing very often. I also tried DaVinci and one was actually quite good but another even tho it is S played rock hard and didn't hold chalk well ( maybe defective?).
For non layered I tried triangle: good tip but way too hard.

is an Elk Master tip too soft ?

YES...too soft ! because in billiards you are hitting a heavier ball (and often fairly hard), it is better to play a med.-med. hard tip (layered will hold up better and not mushroom as much). The soft tips, Elk Master or Blue Diamond WILL mushroom out A LOT when playing billiards. FYI
