Is any other american matching up with the filipinos, other than shane?

Just rewatched my dvds of the Efren vs Frost 1P match at Kolbys. Five stars!

People do not realize how good one pocket is or how high of a level the top guys like them play it at, watching that video is just great and humbling. :)

I bought a copy of that match and it's amazing. I love to watch good one pocket and Scott and Efren are probably the best players you'll ever watch play the game. What a match!

Can you imagine what it was like for the Germans in the 90s to get beaten by Bustamante spotting them 4-6 games in races to 11 or 13?

These were all run out players, national class, and Busty spanked them. If he lost a set he would jsut flip it and outrun the nuts the next two or three sets.

I watched him win 17 games in a row where he either ran out or played a lock up safe. The guy had simply NO CHANCE and he knew it.

Busty could hit you with so many racks getting out from seemingly impossible positions that it would put the opponent into a coma. Imagine getting a 6 game spot going to 13 and your opponent runs six out of the gate?
At DCC Bustamonte beat a few 15-3 in the Fatboy. I saw him beat a rising star 7-0 and the opponent kicked twice. Sometimes it just doesn't matter, the other guy is too strong. He and Dechaine sidebet the Fatbay 15 games to 12, I think Mike got 9 maybe 10. Busty is playing so loose, his kicks won that match. He kick safes him cold 2-3 times. The man is not to be played with. Shane has a backer with deep pockets, Bustamonte does too.Who do you think is scared here? It sure isn't Francisco!

Respect? sure!.....fear? not so much IMO. SVB, especially after this years Derby, has put his stamp on the pool world as being easily in the top handful of Pros. IMO top 3 along with Darren and Orcullo.

SVB playing FB is tough I think because of the respect, or hero factor. It's tough playing or beating your heros. Same thing for Scott Frost playing Efren.

Shane's not scared. He hold's Busty's game in the highest regard. There is one thing that has dominated Shane's career so far and it's that he has set his sights on his heroes in the game and made it a personal goal to challenge them and defeat them. The old saying holds true that if you want to be the best you have to beat the best. Shane is not scared to try.

IF I were a Mike Dechaine or any other American player then I would do everything possible to pump up and then I would fly to the Phillipines and get in constant action. If I survived there then it would on to Taipei and then to Shanghai.

You gotta jump in and fight and learn. What is the worst that can happen? You find out that they are all just too strong? Ok fine then you know. But what's the best that can happen? You find out you can hang and still learn, you find out they are human but that they have developed skills you haven't because they play a different game for money all the time. So you learn it and you play and you get better and then you face them with no fear at all.

You might not win all the time but you won't lose all the time either. And really all you can ask for is a fair shot.

It's on my bucket list to spend a month in the Philippines playing wherever I can and just absorbing it all. If I were a pro player it would be a priority.

Yes, you nailed it. If you want to be a pro in USA and be making money; learn in the Phillipines and then come back. Otherwise, you aren't going to hang with the top Americans since they are getting seasonings.

JB, you are a man in the know and I am a big fan. Tell me honestly what is a fair game spot with Bustamonte and SVB where Bustamonte goes to 30? To me it starts with 26-30 and will require adjustment from there. And I don't mean Shane is "scared" in the usual sense, I just mean playing him even is a bad investment of his and his backers money or it would already be happenning.

Even at DCC I saw SVB miss some pretty basic shots and outs. What kept him going more than anything was his break which was just absolutely dominating. He had the 1 ball in the top corner pocket routinely and with 6 or 7, and even 5 balls on the table.

When Bustamonte impressed me it was with shots and kicks that only Efren and Alex Pagulayan can do and not with his level of consistency. This man turns bad layouts and strong safeties into offensive opportunities. He makes even difficult aspects of this game look amazingly easy. It has to be seen to be appreciated.

No spot. Shane can rain packages so that equalizes Busty's kicking skills. I have known Francisco for 20 years and made him his first custom case. He has been the same monster player the whole time. But he also misses easy shots sometimes. Which only proves he is human. So I don't think any spot is needed.

But I do think Shane still has a tendency to get down on himself if things aren't going well and maybe that costs him a few games here and there.

A lot of times he does come with a package to get back in the game but where he needs to fight is the periods where it is nasty game for game ball for ball. But who can argue with his track record so far?

All true JB. Shane can get down sometimes, just a maturity thing. If he stays active he will get past that. We need these 2 to play a long set to 30 to settle this, the rail betting would be huge.

BTW at DCC I saw the case you made for Worminator (Jamie of NEW2YOUCUES), wow. The only thing nicer than the case was the 8 cues inside. Just amazing. Someday I will have you make me something hot like that.

There are a few guys that can win on any given day but if you put up a large purse, say 20k or more I think shane will be a clear favorite.

Definately The Grim Reaper of 9/10 Ball! 2 yrs ago @ DCC FB played a great Pro player that everyone says he's the top money player in our country. He had backers with lots of $. Games was set for $5K FB gave him the 7B and before they started FB stared at him eye to eye and I looked over at the opponent and right then and there I knew he was a deadman already! It was all over his face.

The Grim Reaper was hitting 5 rail positions and nutting 8ft power shots center pockets -like they were 5 inch close. His 7ft razor slices down the rail were not rubbing a rail! His speed is 2 notches up from his tournament plays. Amazing to watch! Total control of the table, balls, pockets and rails like they all work for him and what the boss says they do!

After the second set the player quit. His backers said "One more" a chance to win one back he said no. He wanted no more pain! I would be too after getting the 7 ball and FB shootin No Mercy! It was like cancer on him slow death... I'm sure he would've rather die in a car accident than be tortured to shame... He met the Grim Reaper![/QU

Does this player have a name or is it a big secret?

Follow along closely .
FB= Fransisco Bustamonte, Busty, Django

I was watching Busty play Dechaine in the Fatboy Challenge at DCC and it was like watching a cat play with a piece of yarn. He kicks 3 rails, hits a ball that cuts in another ball that is about 4 inches from the hole. Mike rolls his eyes and pouts. Busty smiles and says, "Boom Boom". Highlight of the week. The man knows he's got it and so does everyone else, what a feeling that must be everyday when you walk into a pool hall!
