Is Bert's 60 minute 9-ball/8-ball video worth buying? I have been doing his long rail shot 100times every other day. Love it for working on my stroke...

I am just curious if it is worth buying. What are some of his drills in that program?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't reallly watched any of his videos, but I know in the beginning Niels used a lot of Bert's drills in his practice routine and still uses them today.

cool...

I heard that too and also, with what you told me about his eyesight in some previous posts I have been watching him a lot and trying to copy some of his methods. He was the main reason I am interested in Bert Kinisters videos. I hope to use more of Kinister's drills... thanks again Al-fahl

It's definitely worth it! Shot #1 always gets me back into stroke when I start hitting them off-center.

If you are going to buy any of Bert's tapes, the 60 minute workout is the one to get.

recommend it, has a lot of the routine shots in them. the Advanced workout tape is good too.

however, not sure which one but one of his tapes on professional shotmaking and position drills, or advanced shotmaking, is kind of a joke. its him and Neils shooting the same shot over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, etc, etc, etc. i couldnt believe anyone would make a tape like that, i got my $$$ back on that one.

Thanks for the advice... Those are the two I will buy then...

I have bought all of his tapes to get the discount. Some are contradicted in later tapes. The break tape is a waste of money. Most of his tapes show a student practicing a drill that he has set up. If you were to buy one and only one that showed this you would think that it is a waste of money.

The best tapes are #1 the Sixty minute workout, and tape 11 Advanced fundamentals. I could not perform any of the stuff in number 1 until I watched #11. Be sure to watch this one first as it will develop your stroke which in turn will help you do the shots in #1.

Tape 18 is also good.

The majortiy of his stuff is pretty good if you take it as you are getting a private 1 hour lesson. They are basically showing a player getting a 1 hour lesson from him. It is encouraging to see that pros and "A" players cannot do some of the stuff he wants them to do.

The key is watch the tape. Then watch it again and have paper with a pool table printed on it so you can diagram the shots and take notes so you can refer to them to practice from.

One night when I decided to play a tape while in bed. I put a tape in and started to watch it. About midway through it he said I know a lot of you are in bed watching these tapes (this was the first time I did this and it seemed as if he could see me). I want you to try this shot before you go any further into the tape because I want to prove something to you. I decided to get out of bed and try the shot. When I resumed watching the tape he was right on about why I missed the shot.

You can now get them on DVD. Some of the tape quality is pretty poor but for the most part they will help. If you are looking for basic introduction to pool these tapes won't help, if you want to improve your game they will.

I thought that was a waste of time too. However, there were 2 or 3 pieces of *real* information in the tape. Still not worth the price but if you listen closely, he does let out some valuable knowledge every once in a while.

I have about 20 or so Kinister videos and about half of them are good and the other half could be much better.

When I first saw his tapes, I thought he was a joke. Bar table, bad lighting, ding dong daddy, does not know how to edit simple VHS lol, sells to many products in his videos, and has too many tapes to buy. But, after seeing some of his other tapes, I know he can give me a good game and I respect that :)

As far as the 60 min workout, I think it would help all C players. B and A should already know all that stuff... Pro Book and Basavich have a very similar dvd's (kinister was first to do it). The pro Book is much easier to follow but has its own problems. The Kids is pretty good but a combination of all three would be best. All of them lack something the others have.

I rate them like this:

1. Basavich - Because it is good info and he is a proven world class player of today. So if he is telling the truth, his system DOES work (for him)

2.Pro Book - Better produced than kinisters and has a better systematic approach to the reference shots but Bob Henning is no Danny Basavich and he does'nt really execute his own shots all that often. If he can't do it, how can I seeing how he is so good lol

3. Kinister - Poorly produced and not scripted. Scripting is very important to education. He kind of wings it and he gets hard to follow and stumbles over his own ideas from time to time. Still a good video, though...

BTW - Basavich was a student of kinisters and most likely "stole" the tape idea from Bert.

The 60 minute workout is 27 shots that come up all the time in 9 Ball. Each shot has a #. Once you have learned all the shots when you approach a shot during a game you simply say to yourself "this is a # 6" etc. The idea being that knowing you have made the same shot dozens, if not hundreds of times in practice will give you added confidence. Shot # 1 is the most important shot!!

I'm finding that it is beneficial to start every session on the table with # 1's.

One of the jewels in the 60 Minute tape is Kinister's statement that the table length draw shot will put you in stroke faster than anything else.

I warm up for tournaments and matches shooting two or three racks of table length draws. Usually I'm in stroke before the end of the second rack.

After that, I start to shoot the #1 shot over and over, quite a tough shot really if the pockets are very tight. When people see you potting that shot consistently on that kind of table the compliments start flowing. They'll even tell you not to show your speed....

After that, other drills...
