Is it bad that I hold my breath during my follow through.

So yeah, what the title said.

Is it a bad thing. I would think that you wouldn't want to be exhaling or inhaling during the stroke as it causes you to move slightly.

I've been told our bodies are most still during the pause between exhale and inhale.

I hold my breath when I pull the trigger of my .45.
Shooters do. That's why they train to have resting heart rate of less than 60 beats per minute so they have a second or more between beats when they hold their breath.

IMO do whatever is comfortable for you. You have run 100 in straight pool and have strung several racks together in 9 ball, if I recall correctly. IMO, I don't think you need to worry about the small stuff. You have the talent, you just need to concentrate each and every shot. Again, JMO.

Like JoeyInCali said that's very much common in between shooters. As long as it works with you it's ok, just keep your rythm and make the shot before it starts feeling uncomfortable because of lack of oxygen...it's not a nice thing to see someone fainting because of that.

I hope I don't start thinking about this when I shoot.

Would be a great sharking technique. Ask your opponent in a tight match if he inhales , exhales or holds his breath as he shoots.

I've seen this same question asked on the golf course, i.e, "do you inhale or exhale on your backswing?" Works great!

Exactly! I agree completely.

lol i was about to say......i think the fact youve thought about it is probably worse than doing it......cuz its gonna be in ur head

I'd say it's alright unless your follow through was over 3 or 4 minutes, then you'd have problems.:D

This is actually an intriguing situation... Snipers are taught to exhale completely and hold their breath just before they pull the trigger. It has to do with the oxygen in your muscles. It completely relaxes you to where you aim is dead steady. You have about 2 to 3 seconds to "pull the trigger" before you start to tremble slightly due to lack of oxygen... Zen pool shootin. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

That's what you are thinking about when you are playing pool?

Next you will be worried about which eye should be over the cue.

Or how high your head is?

Or how tight your grip is?

Is your elbo at 90°?

LOL

I have never noticed or thought about breathing when I shoot. I guess I think about the other things too much...

I think that was Marco's first shark move on me lol...

I played Johnny Marco many many games of straight pool during the 70's...and he had a million jokes, a million stories, and a million sharking techniques...and I loved every one of them...

It was during one of our first outings that he asked me if I was breathing in or out when I struck the cue ball...I never thought about it and so I started checking and found that sometimes I breathed in and sometimes I breathed out...and my pool game went to pot.

And the point is...if you're thinking about whether you're breathing in or breathing out...you're not paying attention to your pool game.

Thanks for the replys. I noticed that I would hold my breath last night, and I have heard people say that you should be exhaling or inhaling instead during the follow through. I don't know what good it may do outside keeping you more still.

Anyways I am always willing to learn and pick up new things that may add to my consistency, I am a self taught player so there is a whole world of tricks that I don't know about.
