Is it just me?

Has anyone else noticed their pool halls filling up these days?
I play after work most days from 4-6 +. I used to be dead during those hours. Now 60% of the tables are in use during that time. I'm constantly seeing a cue being sold at the pro shop. Weekly tournaments that used to draw 20 people are now drawing 40+. This change has happened within a couple of years. Is it just Chattanooga?

Bazooka, not to get off subject, but how is that Sports Club doing with the tables since they passed the ordinance to allow pool there? Are they starting to pick up a bunch of regulars, any leagues, cue sales, or whatever else?

I've noticed a few more cars in the parking lot, but I don't go there much.
I tend to play in Chattanooga mostly. Better tables & better players.
4 tables in Ringgold and they have to be Valleys. Uugh!

Same here

:D :D You are doing the same thing as me. I go to a pool hall right after work from 4 to 6 or 7. I use the excuse that I'm waiting for the traffic to die down.

To answer your question, it's hard for me to say. The place I play at is new, about a year and a half old so I can't measure the difference over time. Most of the time, though, it starts getting pretty busy around 5:00. They have a weekly tournament and have a go-off bucket for the break and it is over a $1,000 so he's getting quite a few people in there trying to snap it off.

This place has 5 new Diamond 4 1/2 X 9's and a bunch of other tables of lesser quality so it's a great place to play. I almost never have a problem getting on one of the Diamonds. :D

Back home, summer was busier. Where I live now, the PHs seem to be completely dead during the summer.

Here in So Cal there have been a few pool halls that have closed down so their players go elswhere adding to the crowd. Most poolhalls have a monthly rate that adds to the afternoon crowd but after that ends around 6:00PM it gets dead untill the kids and gamblers come in after 9:00PM.

Hi BazookaJoe,

Things are pretty slow here. Our room manager layed off the guy who cleans up the place during the week. He then rehired him for one day per week to clean the bathrooms etc. He was heard telling the guy not to clean the tables as no one is using them anyway. He also raised table time for two players! Ask me again how business is.

I don't even bother going in at night anymore. There is no one to play. I practice an hour or so a day when the rates are only $4 per hour. While in Vegas, I play for about a dollar an hour during the day in one room and $2 per hour in another. There are NO local eight ball or nine ball tournaments on 4.5 x 9 tables. One night a week on the bar boxes for eight ball. That one is a handicapped race to two.

no difference

I didn't notice any difference in my aera, because I play at my apartament. :D

Here it's $6/hr (any # of players)
All of the leagues APA and BCA stay full
Weekly tournaments at 3 places Fri and Sat. (9ball and 8ball)
Weekly tournaments at 2 places Sun. (9ball)
Weekly tournament at 1 places Sun. (8ball)
All the action you want (if you know where to go)
Two monthly tournamrnts (8 ball APA handicap) and Race to 9 dbl elim no handicap.
Must be Chattanooga

Joe,

You make me jealous! Perhaps, since Mike Sigel and Larry Hubbard left Rochester, no player of any significance has risen from here! There is no one to play.
