I recently heard that BCAPL was going to ban all phenolic tips for jump and break in their Reno and Las Vegas Tournaments. I've got a half dozen break cues, all with pheno tips. I took one of them and put a WHITE DIAMOND tip on it, because I was told that it was not a true phenolic, some sort of a composite. Can ANYONE tell me whether or not the White Diamond tip will be honored by BCA or not?

I doubt that there will be any ban. Phenolic tips are part of the market now and they don't harm anything. I spent many years doing jump cue demos proving to people that phenolic and similarly hard tips do not harm the table or balls.

Balls are made of phenolic resin as well.

Plus - who is going to be the tip police and determine what a tip is made of? I seriously doubt that there will be any way for a referee or anyone else to be able to determine that a tip is phenolic, canvas, impregnated leather, leather infused resin..... and so on.

You can play pool normally with a phenolic tip so who is going to tell me I can't use a hard tip?

I agree JB Cases, there is no way that anyone is going to be able to police the event. And too much of a headache to worry about.

It's hard enough to get a referee to watch some close shots, let alone check someones cue during play. Not going to happen.

Per Bill Stock, Director of Referees and Rules Administrator, this is an unfounded rumor. There are no limitations on phenolic tips. Thanks for the lead guys. Now we know. Break the hell out of 'em.:grin-square:

By the way (add-on), the White Diamond tip is DYNO-MITE! It is a layered tip, however, it hits and jumps like crazy! Give it a try. I understand though, that Mr. Picone is not in the best of health, and tips might be getting scarce.
