Is Joel Davidas (JD cues) one of the best cue makers from the Philippines?

I would like some opinions about Joel Davidas - JD custom cues?

Are the very high quality, and are they much better then a lot of other cue makers from the Philippines?

I received a trade offer (my Predator 2k3 cue in trade for a 4 point JD cue with with some nice veneers and other inlays and windows in the butt).

It looks like a very nice cue, but I am just not sure what it is worth, and if it would be a fair trade for my Predator 2k3 cue (fair to me).

I am also not sure of his cues are very good players.

Are there many good players out there that really like his cues, and choose one as their main player?

How much do these cues cost new, and do they have a good resale value (compared to how much they cost new)?

Thanks for any opinions about this.

I'll be honest with you. His cues are hit and miss.I've had a lot of them and
the playability is very good but his finishes can be poor and had a few
didn't stay straight over time. Could be the climate change or the wood isn't
cured enough. Even if the cue is 3-400 which is a great price for the work
in his cues but you have to weigh the risk of how the cue is going to be
over time before you make a purchase.

Sorry just to add, look straight down at the pin and do you see a very thick
abundance of clearcoat or no.I did read somewhere his finish has changed.
If you don't see it maybe it has.

I have one made in 2013. Don`t think you will find more cue for the money anywhere.
Mine is straight as an arrow and has a solid hit.
It`s a ebony cue, so it`s quite heavy, right around 20oz

There is no way he is the best. He might be the most known to some. He's an average cuemaker, who needs to focus on attention to detail, including his wraps and finish. Are they good cues? Yep. Is the quality top of the line. Nope.

I'd have no problem saying that every American production cue company does a better job in terms of sheer quality, fit, finish, wraps, attention to detail.

Has anyone done reclamation to JD?

I got my cue and didn't take long until butt started warping - shafts arent dead straight either.

JD suggested me to send cue back (on my own cost i think) and he would make new one with carbon fiber core?

I asked about birdseye cue but he just told me that he got only curly maple and it hits the same as birdseye when there's carbon fibre. Does is basicly mean that what ever material cue is made of, it is same - i thought custom cues are made of wood.:sorry:

Online reviews of JD cues are not flattering. Goggle JD cues and you will come across a YouTube video warning about purchasing a JD.

I have seen some very good ones and some bad ones , heard about the warping but in all fairness , I have seen some very expensive cues warp also.
I bought one on here that I think is as nice a cue as any I have seen , it was a Tad {tribute}
I don't believe most people, if it had Tad on the butt, would ever question that it wasn't ,
The inlays are all perfect as far as anyone I have shown , they are all flat , the cue is straight as an arrow, it plays a lot like my Old 1970s Mc Dermott, , which means there is deflection, I actually prefer this, because all the cues had deflection when I learned to play.
I'm sure you could get an LD shaft to fit it.
I think this cue has 280 or so inlays.
Original price was about 800 I think , I bought it used and wish I could get 10 more just like it.
I was told the reason for the differences in workmanship was that , the ones Joel makes are great , if a helper makes them , not so great.

I got a JD custom month or so ago and I've got too say for the money u can't beat it I was very happy with the cue but I will say I've heard guys say his older cues didn't have very good finish
