Is Mika hot headed?????/

I dont think Mika has ever missed a shot that wasnt somebodys fault other than his. I have constantly seen him raise his hands and look at the crowd like they sharked him or something. To me he comes off like a whiner most of the time. Even though he is pretty much a perfect pool player, I enjoy seeing him lose for some reason.

Yep, agreed. I have watched M&M(Mika) play in and around the NYC area for years now, and yes he has a bad temper problem. Many times I have seen him go crazy over shots and matches. Im not a phycologist, but I can see what I see at these matches. Hey, he's a ok guy away from the table, but at one...............LMAO I'm not to sure!!!!

Frustration is inevitable sometimes, and Mika shows it a little differently than some other players. The key thing to notice is that he doesn't impose it upon other players (unlike Earl). Mika gets mad at himself, does that weird hand gesture while talking to himself, and then goes and broods in the chair. lol

Personally, I like the show of emotion. It's also good for tv. People don't want to see robots at the table, they want to see real people.

Ronnie O'Sullivan was complaining that they want snooker players to be lifeless robots and not show emotion. Bowling took off good a few years back when the bowlers started showing some emotion and will to win. Snooker is dry(I love it-the game) but Ronnie is right robots arnt fun to watch. So yeah emotion is great and sure as hell cant hurt sales.

Where it becomes a problem is if its directed at the other player, thats bad,and unacceptable. But to show emotion is part of life and should be part of pool, how it comes out is different for everyone. Mika is not out of bounds. He is a very nice well mannored guy away from pool.

Mika is obviously one of the best in the world, the only thing that bothers me about him, is at every interview after losing, he never says, the best man won, or he was just too good today, or I just did not play my best. It is always some lucky break that his opponent got or some unlucky break that he got, that he points out, that caused him to lose.

he keeps his thoughts like that to keep himself where he is #1. His brain is locked in and configred to a way of thinking thats producing results, which are more important that being nice after a match.

I remember seeing some match with him and Corey Duell on TV from a few years ago. There definitely were some emotions coming from Mika in that match..........

That was a great match, not for the pool, but for how funny it was. I need to tivo it if I ever see it on again. I think it was a 7 ball match, but I forget.

Corey was getting every roll you could get in this match anyways, and then in one game he got about 2 or 3 rolls consecutively. You can imagine how many times Mika was throwing his hands up and rolling his eyes and shifting in his seat, and you can imagine how much Corey was grinning.

Anyways, after Corey won that game and they are about to cut away to commercials, Corey looks in the camera and says "I just can't get a roll!" and Mika says something like "Cmon man you're getting every roll" before they cut to commercial. It was one of the most hilarious things I've seen in pool.

Now everytime I see Corey I tell him "I just can't get a roll!"

It goes without saying that Mika is a supreme prima donna.

I agree with you 100%, you have to be a man enough to say, yes he was better today
I lost, no excuses. There is very few men in any sport who can do that.

Mika's under-the-breath mutterings not very sportsmanlike

I watched Mika play at the 14.1 tournament in Comet billiards. I think he acted in a very professional manner at all times. Even when he lost the final match, he was very dissappointed, but he continued to be very professional and polite.
He believe he is a good representative for the sport.

kaznj:

Sorry to disagree, but I watched Mika play at the Predator 14.1 World Championships at Comet Billiards as well, and I saw an entirely different Mika. Mika didn't conduct himself in a professional manner "at all times" as you describe. Most demonstrative of his other-than-professional manner was during his semi-final match with Oliver Ortmann, where Mika was a motor mouth, constantly muttering things under his breath that only Oliver and the Accu-Stats crew sitting behind Mika can hear. A couple of times, Oliver would be down on a shot, and it was like someone stuck a hatpin in his rear end or something; something only Oliver could hear was heard, and Oliver sprang up off the table, turned around, and glared with fiery eyes over in Mika's direction. He held that glare for more than a comfortable period of time, then, not saying anything, he'd get back down on his shot and continue on.

The folks sitting next to me in the front row, and I myself, did happen to catch a couple of these commential mutterings by Mika, and, at least the mutterings *we* heard, were whines about Oliver getting lucky rolls and why he (Mika) is not still up at the table is because of balls skidding. (I.e. it goes back to what another poster said about Mika's "it's everyone else's / everything else's fault but my own" thing.) There could've been other topics those "Mika mutterings" could've covered that we did not hear, but one thing was for sure that day -- the bad blood between Oliver and Mika dripped in buckets. After the match, when Oliver went outside to take a much-needed break, my commute partner met Oliver in the parking lot and chatted him up a bit. My commute partner made a comment about a herculean effort it must've been to fade those "Mika mutterings," and Oliver replied, shaking his head and with a very stern look, "Tell me about it."

I'd seen Mika play several times before then, e.g. Super Billiards Expo and Turning Stone, which, I admit, subsequently jaded me about him before even stepping foot into the Accu-Stats arena for the Mika/Oliver match. The under-the-breath,-just-loud-enough-so-your-opponent-can-hear mutterings were chugging along full steam from Mika, and it took his opponent all the control he can muster not to explode at/onto Mika.

There is a such thing as "passion" for the sport -- we all have it in varying degrees of overtness. There's quite another when it kangaroo-vaults into the unsportsmanlike category.

Mika is not hot headed dammit! He is an arrogant PR*CK. :) Just my opinion.

I have heard that about him from different people who don't even know each other. The arrogant part, not the PR*CK part. He's supposed to be really full of himself. I don't know him but I seen tapes and my opinion is that he thinks he's mister cool. I just cant seem to root for him either.
But congrads to him on winning a very tough tournament.

This is easily the 5th or 6th Mika thread in the last 3 months, so yeah he's hot headed. Yes he sharks his opponents too and pulls rack moves, did we forget about him and SVB at that seminole tour event a couple months ago? With all that said he deserves way more of a bashing right, WRONG! Let him do his thing he is a champion, so is Earl. We all need to be less worried until one of our kids runs up and says i wanna break my pool cue like Johnny Archer did this weekend..oh wait he gets a free pass to cuz he is JA. I hate these bash threads, theyre all grown men and pool players are not role models.

Yea Grand, full of himself would be the best way to describe him. I know him pretty well, and when we cross paths he only says hello and talks to me when he feels like it. LMAO.....LOL

Crazy, he should have just shrugged, slapped the waitress on her ass, took a swig of his beer, ate a chicken wing, and played abit of trophy hunter or some Golden Tee.

He clearly does not get the game.

Now that would be some crazy stuff! Can you imagine Ralf has to wait while Mika wipes chicken grease off his hands between shots? Now lets see who would be reviled more the butt slapping, beer drinking, chicken wing eating champion or Earl the Pearl? I wonder.....LOL
