Is multi layer less forgiving?

I recently used a friend's cue with a soft multi layered tip (Ultraskin), and I couldn't get over how much more control I had over my tried and true Triangle brand tips. There seemed to be an infinite amount of extra responsiveness out of the ultraskin. Was the added control due to the softness or was it all in my head? Btw my comparison was done with the same tip radius, similar tip diameter and same chalk.

More English for the same stroke and contact point on the CB?

I wonder if it's hard or expensive to get the same homogeneous body in a thick single layer than with multi layers?

If you're not getting enough spin, going softer may help. Many pros like Blue Elk Master for this reason. Multi-layer tips are like plywood, they give the manufacturer more tip to top consistency. So, the next 'soft' tip will come out the box closer to the last soft tip.
