A $300 set of balls is not going to play better than a $50 set of balls. At one time they did...not today. The difference in price is labour, marketing, etc.
That's not remotely true. Even just looking at one variable, unintentional skids, they happen at a much much lower frequency with quality balls than they do with cheap balls. This is not a trivial difference.
Of course a good player is going to know how to adapt to playing with cheap balls, and it has no ultimate impact on who wins more games, but playing with predictable equipment is just more fun.
