Is Predator's move into every aspect of pro billiards really a good thing?

So, from top sponsorships, to cues, to racks, tables, balls... now entire tournaments that sport ONLY their products? It seems they are now attempting to establish a monopoly over every aspect of the sport of Pro Billiards? But is this really a good thing?

the rack is junk. the balls are good, and i hear the tables are too.

i'm not a fan of them sticking the cat on everything pool but there's no denying they've done more for pool than any other sponsor. just this week, total prize sum was 400k..

I wholeheartedly welcome anyone raising the production value and prizes of pro pool. Their last tournament in Vegas was very well done and free for me to stream.

As far as making every little item, it doesn't bother me either. Look at the cycling landscape, where companies like Specialized sell every conceivable item you could want. They make excellent products, but there's also a world of competition. In the end, I think it forces everyone to be more competitive.

Predator does not make excellent products. They excellently marketed mediocre products.

I have no problem with my predator products and I’ve had a lot of them 🤷‍♂️ . Hell the cases our a great value for the money. that being said my most expensive is the p3 . I can’t imagine spending the money on a blak series or throne. that’s just to much for a production cue to me.

Yeah, this is an interesting question. The newest billiard product I own is some Taom chalk. My table, cues, tips, balls, etc are all from the late 1960s thru early 1990s. I am a sort of “golden era junkie” so the Predator gear generally turns me off. That said, if they have the market presence, the capital, and the wherewithal to promote the sport, then more power to them. The game needs that kind of dedication and interest from manufactures and sponsors.

Indeed. Quality of components in pro billiards begins to look not as important, when faced with the prospect of there being no pro billiards left at all.

Why is there always somebody complaining about a pool company putting $$$ into the game? Seriously?

Pool players have to be the dumbest group of "fans" on the planet. F me
No shit. The game's been suckin' the hind tit for 25yrs and now its kinda semi-exploding and people wanna bitch about the nittiest stuff.
Seriously.... best way to show a company appreciation is bash them. 😂. Maybe JC Higgins, Walmart or Harbor Freight should be a sponsor. Hey check out my Chicago break cue.

I prefer 3 outta five sets for pool, single elimination.... as do the spectators when it was hill/hill.... works fine in the majors in Tennis.
The Filler match finals, the spot shots, don't give me the fix I need.
Rather see when it's two sets apiece, first to win by two alt break/lag for break.
This would make the ''lag'' very important.
Nice thing about single elimination 3 out of 5 format is for the up and coming players/who are ''paying their dues''.
Allows them because it didn't cost tooooo much, they are able attend/enter in another event.... if they loose in the early rounds, they don't have pay to stick around for the weekend hotel rates.
Current set up ad nauseum, the venue want$ players to stay more and play more even when they have no chance at cashing.

I actually kinda like the shootout - I wish it was at least 10 shots from various places, maybe even with more points awarded for "hard" shots.

I'm kind of a purist and still like the shootouts, if for nothing else the excitement of it. Let's face it, most runouts are boring because the players MAKE IT LOOK boring.

I love races to 100/120 or whatever because I love watching the best players against eachother as much as possible - I'd love races to 1,000 because of that. If you don't want to watch the race to 1,000 STFU and watch the last 20 racks or first 20 racks or whatever.

All I know is, I'd love to see Harold worst, Mosconi etc playing 1,000's of racks.

All the dummies want it to be over. We are being given the gift of watching Filler, Fedor, Shane, Kaci, Ko's, Chang, Chohan, Billy(banks) from the comfort of our homes and you idiots want it to be a race to 3 alternate break.

I swear to God we are living through the most ignorant period of time in our history

I spent 30-something hours on Predator Apex tables last week. They are far more satisfying to play on than the Diamonds I use in two leagues every week. Banks are natural, requiring no "Diamond compensation" to hit the pocket because the rails are correct. You can make sharp cuts to the pockets without fear of the Diamond rattle because the shelves are correct. I watched them switch an entire rail-set from 4 1/2" pockets to 4 1/8" in less than ten minutes. The leveling system seems pretty well designed too.

I know she's biased, but Jasmin Ouschan likes the tables immensely. Alex Pagulayan agreed.

Maybe making the tables with steel instead of wood is a good thing. I'd buy one if I was looking for a new table.

I like that there's another big event but they really need to tone down the propaganda about how great their tables play!! That's something that I'd pay a lot more attention to the more unbiased opinions on here! I really like bank pool but an event like they have should be spaced 6 months apart from the Derby not 1 and they need to space out mixed doubles from Ultimate Pool. Also would like to see ADS showing the entire event schedule so it's not just randomly popping up on youtube.
