Is Shaw considered the supreme 'middle o' pocket' potter?

My pick would be Efren.
4 1/8" pockets are more prevalent now, but has anyone seen competition on tighter? I'd love to see Shaw, SVB, Filler, Gorst, and Efren play on 3" pkts.

Shaw is an absolute beast. One of the most accurate players I’ve ever watched.
The 700+ run in straight pool and the attempts before it show up now with his speed control.

It’s just crazy how easy Jason makes the most difficult shots look.

2.5" ball into a 3" pocket would be crazy to watch. Would it even be possible to run a ball down a rail and drop it into a 3" pocket without rattling it out?

As much as I cannot stand him, I will say Filler shoots as straight as anyone, ever.
To me, Josh makes pool look the easiest.
Not only does he fire long tough shots like they are hangers, but he does it naturally, without tiresome, robot-like mechanics.

I watched all the VHS tapes of the Efren Earl 100k match from years ago...I don't know what the Accu Stats would have been...but there was not many misses from either...some of the purest 9-ball on older slower equipment I have seen

Earl was the purest ball pocketer in his prime....IMO

it's josh for me. he has an eerie accuracy that i've only seen before in prime earl and dennis orcullo, and is so clutch. what's it danny d use to say, the electric chair shot? i would pick filler for that shot

Filler is a surgeon at the table.
But so is Shaw and so is Gorst and many others nowadays.

Josh's mechanics are just as robotic as any of the other top pros. Aim, drop down straight, shoot straight. On the surface, it can look very different between them due to different learned habits, temperaments, body types, age, etc. but the important mechanics that constitute to the insane level of play, are just as robotic.

Perhaps you are referring to the length of time it takes to shoot, in which case I understand where you're coming from.

Shaw started in "English pool" where the pockets are far less forgiving (i.e. you can't "use the table" as easily to pot the balls). He was a world champion so he was up there with the best. No real surprise that he is hardwired to aim for the middle of the pocket.

However, thankfully he now plays "American" pool where he doesn't always play for the middle of the pocket so we can see the full range of his talent. I reckon he could make some serious money playing Heyball but probably just isn't marketable in China.

I always point out that if you lose the jaws entirely, you can slam the pocket down the rail at a bit above 3". They'd still go at 3" and maybe a hair under; nothing like snooker jaws. The thing I like about jawless pockets is you'll never get away with lame snooker fencing tactics. You gotta play actual pool.

Before Jayson got the new tables at his pool room, he had one GC set up with 3-1/4" (might have been 3-1/2", I don't remember) pockets for the 1 pocket players. I watched him 1 pocket on that table more than a few times, in addition to messing around between racks and casually playing with customers, and he was middle of the pocket on damn near every shot. It was amazing to watch.

Meanwhile, if I ran more than three balls on that table, I was ecstatic.

I agree that Joshua and Jason in full flow seem the most naturally gifted. Love Fedor but think he is more trained than natural.

Don’t understand the Filler hate, yes he can be emotional and a bit loud at times but he comes across as a likeable person. I think it’s just his drive to win. It’s a bit similar with Shaw, although a lot of his I believe is just clever marketing
