Is Sponsorship that good?

We have the world 8-ball competition going on right now. And from what i see, in the field a lot of these players don't stand a chance at all at wining.

Between travel, hotels, food etc. Something like this could be expensive. I mean I'm thinking this as a vacation just to play pool for the most part.

Are most of these players sponsors paying the entire bill? You get top women players like Oschan or Fischer. I would expect them to hit the top 32+, but money won at that level. Isn't breaking even. Is predator paying out that much in sponsorship?

planning on going pro? some are sponsored, some aren't. isn't rocket science.
 
A lot of players know they have no chance of winning or even placing high enough to win a little money.
But they can afford the expenses to get a chance to play top players and just enjoy the experience.
I see it in our local tournaments but of course for a local it's just the entry fee.
 
Each players sponsorship deal is different. Some may just get product. Some may get some entry fee/travel help, and some may get financial compensation. However if you are consistently in the top 3 of these type of events, you are covering your expenses. All those players are able to make this event somehow so.

as for the sponsorships i assume they differ between players moreso than between the big sponsors. i heard for example that ouschan gets his costs covered + more. but he's a guy that's likely to pose with the trophies, whereas other players with the same sponsors are not. in any case i suspect few of the top pros would or can answer those questions in detail.

on a side track i have a lot of respect for a guy like snooker player mark williams who has kept his old sponsor for ~30 years, a local welsh used car business. they helped him out when he was up and coming, now he is helping them.
 
Not sure if it's the same as when I watched it here, about 4 years back, but the top 16 ranked women, will always be in the top 32, as they don't even start to play until the field has been weeded down to the 16 that will play them before that.
 
Given any reasonable sized field (say 64 players) only 10%-15% have a chance to win and only a few more will be in the money.
 
that,s the way it is for tournaments of all sorts. the top few take all the money off and the wannabes pay for the privilege of playing with them.

the sponsors pay to have their brand seen. so you get accordingly to that and how much of a following you have of fools that buy a product just because you wear a shirt with a name on it or play with their product.
